         <title>Middle School Implementation: Middle schools should have a common grade distribution where tests/essays major projects/Labs/etc. showcase a bulk of the grade as these grades assess a summative mastery of learning target. Each department should have the same grade distribution Suggest the following: 55% Major...Tests/Essays/Major Projects/Major Learning Target Assessments 30% Minor --Quizzes/Quiz-like assessments 15% Independent Practice Classwork/Participation If homework is to be graded, it should be combined with Classwork and participation so a compliance issue has minimal impact on grade Also...there should be a common &quot;minimum&quot; expectation of grades in a given marking period.          <title>I would agree that middle school needs something more clearly defined with a clear expectation of grades that should be submitted within a semester.  This would help keep compliance from being an issue as well as validate all of the students grades and efforts in any given content area.</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Whether you call them level 1 or something else, the vocabulary needs to stay the same.  Each dept head decides what coincides with what category.  The discussion is in the percentages...this is where the grade inequity comes to light.</div>]]></description>
