kino is fierce, tough, and stern

This quote is from kino. He starts as peaceful and then he turns into a killer. This was all due to the pearl.

"Under her breath Juana repeated an ancient magic to guard against such evil, and on top of that she muttered a Hail Mary between clenched teeth."

protective, superstitious and calm.
Juana lets kino be the leader through the start of the story but at the end she become equal with kino.
