This study reflects on the theory of mind very well. Sally has a marble in her basket, however when she isn't looking, Anne moves it into her box. Sally still believes that the marble is in her basket, she has a different belief to Anne now as she knows the marble is in her box.

It affects no two people the same but people are usually affected by the same 3 main categories 'communication' 'social interaction' and 'social imagination'. Professionals refer to it as the Autistic spectrum as it is so varied. Usually diagnosed during childhood however it can be hard to identify and may not be picked up on until adult hood. People on the Autistic spectrum usually have low empathy had fine it hard to see others emotions, they also often hypersystematise which means they often see patterns in in information and can have obsessive behaviour.

The eyes task by Baron - Cohen

The eyes task involves describing the emotional and mental state of a person based on an image of their eyes.
The study involved black and white pictures of eyes with 4 different emotions surrounding them. The participants would then have to state which emotion they felt matched the picture.
In conclusion to this research, results provide evidence that adults with autism/AS do possess an impaired theory of mind.
Some of the autism/AS group held university degrees and were all of normal intelligence. This suggests that theory of mind defects are independent on general intelligence.
