Try to read all of the words.  I think it’s a nice easy pattern for most of this week: “ing”.

Practise Block 77 in your English copy  (Look / Say / Cover / write / Check).  Then try Exercises 1 and 2 on page 44.  Great job!

2.       Creative Writing!

Today guys, we’re going to try a great writing strategy called “Show – Don’t Tell”.

When you’re writing, it can be a bit boring to tell the reader everything about your character. Try to give them clues instead.

So instead of telling the reader Mary is a witch, show them instead: Mary wore a tall, pointed black hat and expertly carried a dusty broom under her left arm.

Now, choose two of these topics and write by showing, not telling.  Use LOADS of adjectives.

a)       Describe an injured puppy.

b)      Describe a flying superhero.

c)       Describe a beautiful sunset.

d)      Describe a horrible car accident.

e)      Describe a boy feeling anxious.

 

3.       Maths: Revision Week!

Before we get back to school, I’d like us to revise what we’ve already learned.

Today we’re going to have a look at a short story called “My Secret Bully” by an author called Tracy Ludiwg.

You can read the story on page 48 of your Wordwise 4.  Read it a couple of times.  Do you understand it?  Would you be able to summarise it out loud for a friend?

7.       Science: Electrical Conductors and Insulators.

Today guys, let’s learn about items that allow electricity to pass through them (‘Conductors’) or don’t let electricity through them (‘Insulators’).

Many metals are conductors. 

Some other materials like paper, wood and rubber don’t allow electricity to flow through.  These are called electrical insulators.

Have a look at this short activity telling the difference between the two.  Remember, a conductor can complete a circuit, while an insulator will break a circuit.

Today, let’s practise Block 79 (Look / Say / Cover / write / Check).  Notice how you dop the ‘e’ at the end of the word when you add ‘ing’.  So for example, ‘make’ changes to ‘making’.

Yesterday we read the story “My Secret Bully”.  Now we are going to have a look at Part C at the bottom of page 49, and study some Synonyms – words which mean the same thing.

Read the words, and then try to pick out the Synonyms in the brackets.  Write the lists (parts 1-10) into your English copies.    Well done everybody.

4.       Art / Gaeilge

As part of our celebrations next week for “Seachtain na Gaeilge”, Mrs Magee has asked 4^th Class to design a poster for the phrase “ar mhuin na muice”.  In English this is “on the pig’s back”.  It means that everything is going really well.  So for example:

Today, I’d like you to prepare a draft image of your poster.  What are you going to show? How are you going to show it: drawing, painting, crayons, pastels?  How are you going to make the text “Ar mhuin na muice” stand out on the page?  What colours are you going to use?

Then in school next week, I’ll give you a large A3 page and materials and you can complete your poster.  I can’t wait to see your ideas.

*REMEMBER: You only have to come up with an idea and a quick plan today.

 

5.       English Grammar:

For our final written activity today, let’s got to page 50 in our Wordwise 4.  Let’s have a go at part B: Prepositions.  These are words which describe the location of an object: beside, under, at, below, over etc.

Please try sentences 1 – 10 in your English copy in your best handwriting.  Full sentences please and don’t forget to rule and title your page.
