https://www.reaganfoundation.org/media/355594/road-to-the-whitehouse-k-5-2020-update.pdf

This is a lesson plan that touches on many topics one of those being how to teach democracy to Kindergartners. The lesson talks about using jellybeans and pictures to hep students understand what each of the pictures are. One such example is that of a poll booth from a previous election and than saying what they are used for. Since there is a photo of Regan with jelly beans they tell their students to pick their favorite jellybean and explaining why.

Considering this is targeted towards Kindergartners I would use this effectively to show how important and individuals opinion can be and the importance of your choice.

PBS Local Government

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/extra/lessons-plans/down-ballot-voting-lesson-plan/

This resource is a lesson plan from PBS.org that is targeted towards grades 7-12th. It says to have the students think about what they did to get to school or things they might have did. One such example is turning on the water to brush their teeth. The instructor than asks the student to think about how their local officials might be responsible in all of the little details of their day to day routine.

I would implement this into my classroom not only because of the importance, but often times local government is overlooked. A local government is just as if not more important.

Scholastic Mock Elections

https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/articles/teaching-content/more-mock-elections/

The premise of this lesson plan sets students up to understand and participate in a live election. They allows their students to choose their political party and form an entire campaign. They allow their students to pick real contemporary issues and stand for them. They also give the students the ability to choose a state to represent and build their own imaginary campaign team

I would implement this to show the fundamentals of what all goes into an election. I would also make this in the form of a live presentation with story boarding. Not only would this show my students the finer details of running for any political office. It also allows the students to have the chance to see what goes into a political party.

Common Sense Electoral College

https://www.commonsense.org/education/lesson-plans/the-electoral-college

This lesson plan is a really great tool that engages the student and allow them to discover the electoral college on their own. It also is heavily reliant on being able to access the internet. It prompts the student to make a google doc after watching a Khan Academy video. It also uses websites like 270 to win and allows the students to see how an election can be won without the popular vote. It also allows the students to learn what a swing state is.

I would implement this with a live viewing of myself on the website to avoid confusion. This also allows me to make sure students are on the same page. I would also have discussions after each key concept.

https://civics.sites.unc.edu/files/2012/05/PoliticalPartiesConventions1.pdf

This plan would take place over the course of a week. This would allow students to catch an idea of how political parties work and the ideologies that are within them. Not only would we analyze both parties and what their mascots mean. We would also dissect and look at political cartoons pertaining to certain parties.

I would implement this in a unit on democracy and how political parties play a big role in shaping democracy.
