AUTHOR STUDY: Unit Lesson Plan and Class Presentation – Design an author study geared toward the Kindergarten classroom to help students discover characteristics of a particular author or illustrator’s works. This will consist of a 5 day unit and must include lesson plans for each day. Lesson plans should follow the adopted format and include all aspects of the lesson design. Each day of the lesson plan should focus on a different book by the selected author.

Additionally, include a notes section that contains biographical information as well as more pertinent information that will demonstrate how the author’s life experiences may have influenced his or her writing. You may find information about your chosen author in Something about the Author or on the author’s own web site. Include a list of other books available by the same author.

Design a brochure, flyer, or pamphlet with important information about the author to distribute to classmates at the end of your 10-15 minute oral presentation about your chosen author. Include a visual display with your presentation and a 2-4 page paper with details/examples of how this unit meets specific reading standards.

A sign-up sheet will be provided during the second week of class. Each student should select a different author.
