The Zimmermann Telegram was crucial in convincing the United States to enter World War I, which helped swing the conflict in the allies' favor. The practice of unrestricted submarine warfare against American merchant vessels had severe ramifications since public opinion had firmly swung against Germany. It also was because it compelled American President Woodrow Wilson to change his mind about the country's engagement in the European conflict and declare war on Germany. The turning point of the Zimmermann was that it sparked a permanent shift in American public opinion against Germany.

The Battle of Cantigny marked the first time that Americans truly shed blood for their cause, placing soldiers' lives at danger in the name of democracy and freedom. A turning point was that after nearly a year of training in France, it was the American army's first combat victory. It also gained significance since it occurred on the second day of the Third Battle of the Aisne. A consequence was that it demonstrated to the outside world that the US was no longer a sleepy backwater but rather a powerful force to be reckoned with.

The significance of war bonds was that it created a strong propaganda campaign designed to appeal to the nation’s sense of patriotism. The most significant effect of war bonds was the removal of money from circulation. The Treasury Department needed to fund the war, and their only alternative was to print more money. In order to raise money to pay for the governments' increasing military expenditures, war bonds were made available to both wholesale and retail investors.
