We will explore using Profoto flash lights and Metz flashguns on and off camera,

We will explore mixing ambient & flash light, and we'll practice lighting some technically difficult situations.

Requirements: Attendance of B&W print intro. If you haven't printed for a long time, speak to us before signing up. There will not be time for a refresher in this workshop.

A 2 hour workshop where you will learn how to develop your B&W film. Please bring a roll of exposed film.

Need to buy film? Ilford HP5+ is great for this workshop, available from the Art Shop.

We will look at how to set up and use the following:

Studio flash lighting

Capture One software for tethered shooting

Light meter & triggers

Also we will look at creating hard and soft lighting and explore studio set ups involving one and several lights.

Requirements: Knowledge of exposure triangle and previous experience shooting film.

A workshop designed to equip you with the skills you are going to need to put up an exhibition

We will look at the following:

Printing options 

Framing & mounting options 

Resizing and resolution

Sharpening 

Getting consistent colour

Adding borders

How to frame a print

How to hang a series of prints

Shoot some film (provided) with time to process it.

Duration: all day.

Requirements: familiar with Hasselblads

Make a contact print for reference and then select a frame to print.

Basic exploration of adjusting exposure and contrast, making small test strips to refine print.

The second part of this workshop is focussed on ensuring the students are up to date on terminology of lighting equipment, language of studio and lighting terms.

We spend time on passing on advice from real life assistants and host a Q&A session with the aim to prepare students for the realities of assisting.

This workshop will show you how to use the C-41 colour film processor and how to scan with the Imacon scanners.

Step by step, hands-on experience so bring some negatives.

We will focus on professional tethering techniques used in industry, editing whilst shooting, the importance of organisation, using masks and layers, and finally exporting using export recipes. The workshop will be industry focussed, ensuring the skills that are taught will be what you come across once you leave UWE.

Duration: 2 hours with a break

Mix the chemicals and print in trays using fibre-based paper.

Build your skills in dodging, burning and split grade techniques.

Discuss archival materials.
