Richard Dyers star theory is the idea that all icons and celebrities are manufactured by institutions for financial gain.
Increasing the brand identity benefits the institution as they become a household name increasing sales in all of the media platforms they are in as they have a greater fan abse. This is built by having the celebrity be relatable to other everyday people. Therefore from this more ticket sales and albums are bought. As they're relatable the audience believe they share a charcateristic to the celebrity. Therefore they will adopt their behaviours, this could have both positive and negative impacts. If the celebrity in question takes drugs etc. they will bring a negative outocme for the audience as they will be likely to copy them.

Maslow had a theory that there is a hierarchy of needs in the media and different people require different things from it. For example in level 3 there is love/belonging. in music videos it is common to see the celebrity be the main focus of a love interest etc. By watching the video they may feel they belong.

Stated that music videos may be characterised by three broad typologies:
1.) Performance - videos that show the band or music artist performing, either in a concert or rehearsing
2.) Narrative - videos which tell a story and generally involve the music artist or group in a scenario related to the lyrics of the song.
3.) Conceptual - videos which create a mood or atmosphere similar to that of the song without telling a story.
