As a teacher of EFL I think we are spoilt for choice regarding topics in Europeana collections. I could use materials from many different collections depending on the topic we are dealing with in class. We could explore all the English speaking countries, their manmade and natural landmarks, get to know them by watching videos or reading texts, discuss the history of those countries or concentrate on the problems of migration from different aspects.

I "visited" Europeana collections and I found a big variety of materials which can be used in History teaching. For example, for WWI topic, I intend to use the postcards in order to increase students' attention, but also to develop their critical thinking. On the other hand, in order to explain them what propaganda means I can use the two types of postcards(the negative ones and the positive ones), the students can analise them, notice which message try to show and so on!

It is tough to decide what to use in the classroom, because there are a lot of great materials, but I think the Migration Collection is the most ineteresting for me now-because of the migration issues in Europe, and in Croatia also. I also like the Archelogy section, so I chose a source from the Tuthankamun collection- a couch with the goddes Hathor. First of all I must say that I'm following this course for the second time, since during the first I had the impression that even if European seems to offer such a large quantity of information, there are at least a few drawbacks in my opinion. When you search specific material it isn't always available in English, it isn't so easy to refine the research for students aged 11-13 who need the support of the teacher, sometimes all you can get is reduced to a series of photos which alone can't be very useful.

As I was watching the collection I realized that I could use it in many learning situations, like using the migration colection in Portugal XX century history. Portuguese went to Brasil, United States, Latin america and to Europe when there were no jobs and it continues, and nowadays there is also another kind of migration : those who are more skilled leave the country. In the Migration Collection there are Greek songs of exile and migration. It's a good resource to study issues on migration (causes, consequences, periods of migration, places of migration, intercultural exchanges) and how it was/is perceived by a society and its members, especially those who were migrants or had a family member abroad. Also there are Turkish songs (I didn't go through the whole collection to figure out if there are songs in any other Balkan language) which can help us demonstrate intercultural similarities and variations on this topic. Since the songs are folk, they can be used as a basis to study the characteristics of Greek folk songs (eg rhythm, verse's length).

However, topic migrations and music made during migrations and the messages it sends, is the most interesting to me.
