The Carers Team can:

Work with young carers on a one-to-one basis;
Support young carers via a 6 week group programme:
Provide information, advice and assistance to young carers;
Offer activities and events to give young carers a break from their caring role and the chance to meet others in a similar situation.

We can support young carers on a one-to-one basis or via group sessions, but it is essential that the young carer agrees to this support.

To be eligible for the service, a young carer is someone who is under the age of 18 and takes responsibility for looking after someone (usually their mother, father, brother or sister) who is:

ill
disabled
elderly
suffering with poor mental health
misusing drugs and/or alcohol

Internal referrals can be made via WCCIS, however any external referrals would need to be made using a JAFF and sent through to IAA for screening.

So, a little bit about me! I come from a very close-knit family, where I am an only child. I have been married for 34 years and have 3 adult children, oh, and 2 pugs!

During my childhood, my mum was ill and I became a young carer from the age of 8, and this still resonates with me now. When my dad was diagnosed with lung disease and oxygen dependant, my caring role continued for 15 years, until he sadly passed away. With the effects of COVID, mental health and bereavement, my role continues, and I understand the impact caring has on individuals.

Prior to joining the team, I was a teaching assistant for many years and absolutely loved working with children. I was lead practitioner for emotional support and have witnessed the experiences young carers are having at present and I am looking forward to supporting schools in recognising young carers and being able to offer the support and understanding they deserve.

I am very excited to be a part of the Carers Support Team for CCBC. I am a mum to three children, one of whom has Ataxia and I am also his carer. I was also a young carer for my mum, but I have only recognised this over the past few months. I love cooking, singing, and enjoy having a go at new and different activities – never say never! I look forward to working together to provide the support, friendship and quality of life that all carers deserve.

My name is Stacey and I have been part of the Caerphilly Carers Team for 3 and a half years.
Prior to joining the team I supported children and young people with disabilities. In December 2019 I graduated with a BSc Honours in Science. I have a daughter called Livvy who is 10. We like to spend our time doing crafts, walking our dog and watching Disney films.
My team and I support both adult and young carers throughout Caerphilly Borough and look forward to meeting you all soon!

My names Becky and I work with Young Carers across Caerphilly. I’m a carer myself and look after my Mum, so can appreciate how hard it is to be a carer. I love working with Young Carers, trying to help make life a little easier for them. A little bit about me… so I’m Married and am a Mum to one Daughter. We have one dog who is very excitable, whom we enjoy taking on walks. My guilty pleasure is definitely reality TV, in particular the dating ones, and also enjoy Strictly and the Traitors.
