One of the most notorious astrologers was Dr. John Dee. He often had very deep thinking and beliefs that expanded between science and magic. One important thing during the Elizabethan era for astrology was Dr. John Dee’s thoughts of using a crystal ball for seeing supernatural images and making predictions. He worked with John Dee in his magic experiments. In addition to his ability to conjure spirits or angels into a crystal ball, Kelley also claimed to possess the secret of transform metals into gold. The "angels" with whom Kelley claimed to communicate seem to have used a special, "angelic" or Enochian language.

Priests often had their horoscopes read and asked astrologers questions. The Church didn't however, approve of the superstitions of the era. The Church disapproved of the belief in black magic or witches or anything of that nature.

The pagan world was dominated by belief in astrology. Pagans believed that the stars were divinities, or that they were controlled by divinities. The  known planets were named after gods as well .
