I know that in the past when I've collaborated with other people / writing teams, I've been able to write more and stay on track more.]]> 2021-04-16 14:22:18 UTC https://padlet.com/rehmannm1/udjwj8smj5b75o8v/wish/1425579027 Here's my favorite part of my story so far: rehmannm1 https://padlet.com/rehmannm1/udjwj8smj5b75o8v/wish/1425610208 She had done the same thing every morning for as long as she could remember: hope that today would be the day some tiny shift in the cosmos would ripple her way and she would no longer care about whether or not her room was neat, her nose was too big, her homework was right…  It was automatic, like brushing her teeth before heading downstairs, despite the fact that she would brush them again after breakfast.  And after she’d re-brushed her teeth, touched up her lip gloss (okay, okay - tinted chapstick), checked the front of her shirt for stray blobs of minty-white toothpaste spit, made sure she had the right textbooks, and zipped her lunch bag into the front pocket of her backpack, Liza would make her bed.  Properly this time.  She always did it just the way her dad had shown her, with military corners, (she’d looked it up online, though, and apparently they were really called hospital corners), tightly tucked in sides, top sheet folded neatly over the blanket, covered with the quilt her grandma made, and pillows fluffed and arranged just so.  If you’re feeling overwhelmed or want to accomplish a big goal, her dad always said, take care of the little things first so you feel confident about tackling the big stuff.
    Today, though, today was Saturday.  If there was a day she was going to break a good habit, it was going to be today, the morning of her 17th birthday, and the first day of spring break.  Maybe she’d go the whole week without making her bed.  Maybe she wouldn’t get out her planner and schedule in time for her homework.  Maybe she wouldn’t even do her homework until next Saturday!  Liza stared back at her gray-green eyes in the mirror and narrowed them slightly, she was tired of maybes; she wanted action.  She licked her lips, then  ran her tongue across her teeth.  Disgusting.  She whipped her toothpaste and toothbrush out of the little white ceramic holder and got to business.  Maybe she wouldn’t make her bed, she thought, but there was no way she was going anywhere - even just downstairs to breakfast - without brushing her teeth.
