Of these, the Rio Carnival is undoubtedly the biggest. The long-standing cavalcade has been organized in its current form since 1928 during the carnival season, during which Rio de Janeiro becomes the capital of the world for a few days.

Carnival is historically a religious holiday. The Brazilian festival takes place in February or March, 5 days before the season of Lent, which begins 40 days before Easter. It also coincides with the end of the long, brutally hot Brazilian summer. Spectacular costumes, samba, music, masks, and a crazy cavalcade characterize the festival, which is considered the world's biggest show.

Rio de Janeiro is the second largest city in Brazil and the capital of the state of Rio de Janeiro of the same name. It was the capital of Brazil until 1960, and the coronation city of Brazilian emperors until the 19th century.

In short, only Rio, famous for samba and bossa nova, as well as the beaches of Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon surrounded by hotels. It is particularly known for its annual Rio Carnival, the iconic Sugarloaf Mountain near the beach, the Maracanã Stadium and the massive Christ the Redeemer statue that sits atop another mountain, Mount Corcovado. The city is also home to the third largest forest within an inhabited area, the Tijuca Forest.

With its exceptional natural environment and beauty, the city is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Cultural Landscape of Rio de Janeiro.

In 2016, the Summer Olympics were held here.
