I chose to read this book because his story really called out to me since I also migrated to the U.S. This story is focused on Javier (the author), and his 9 week journey from El Salvador to the U.S. when he was nine years old.

In Mexico there were fewer protections for migrants which made the routes very dangerous, a lot of law enforcement was also extremely corrupted.

In the U.S., anti-immigrant laws became more strict and there was no protection for unaccompanied minors.
