Lets say polar bears actually DID go extinct, what would the impacts be?

First, because polar bears wouldn't be here to eat seals, therefore the seal population would drastically increase.

Next, polar bears are considered a keystone species; so if we were to lose these animals, the tundra food chain would start to crumble.

Lastly, since polar bears are keystone species, they are responsible for a lot of the marine health. We need these bears to keep our marine biome up and running.

What are some environmental factors?

Environmental factors of extinction... Its a lot to understand, so let us break it down for you.

First of all, polar bears need to eat (obviously), and if they don't, they could die out. And that leads us to our first reason of environmental factors. Low biotic diversity.
This is just a fancy meaning that there isn't enough to eat to support these huge mammals. (Fun fact: Polar bears can eat up to 150lbs of food in one sitting!)

Another big factor is global warming. Polar bears' preferred climate is very cold. They have adapted to the chilly temps over the years and it would be a pretty big shock to their systems if they lived in hot temperatures.

Our final factor is the change in landscape. This one correlates into my last reason quite a bit. Since the polar bears live in the arctic tundra, they've adapted to learn survival and hunting methods. One of their more important methods is how they hunt, a lot of these bears rely a lot on the icebergs to hunt seals off of.

What is our impact as humans?

Even though you might not be trying to lead our furry friends to extinction, you may be contributing to their extinction. Let me tell you why.

The main reason polar bears are going extinct is due to habitat loss and disruption due to global warming. As the ice flows melt, the global shipping trade is using the arctic to transport goods through their habitat. The increased shipping traffic is adding increased pollution and disturbance to their habitats.

The next reason is because of pollution. In the arctic ocean, where these polar bears live, there are about 40 plastic particles per cubic meter of water and that number is slowly increasing due to the global shipping trade.

The final reason the world's polar bears are going extinct is because of humans poaching and hunting. Humans hunt about 800-1,000 polar bears per year! Which is a lot considering there are only about 20,000 to 25,000 polar bears left worldwide.
