The term "teenager" was first introduced to the American public in the 1940s as a moniker coined by advertising executives looking to sell their products to a new audience. The concept of a distinct "youth culture" had begun to develop in the 1920s, but throughout the Great Depression and World War II, young Americans were expected to put aside any frivolous activities or unnecessary spending for the sake of the nation’s well-being.

The 1950s were marked by the emergence of a distinct teen culture. Seeking to distance themselves from the culture of their parents, teenagers turned to rock and roll music and youth-oriented television programs and movies—all packaged for them through new marketing strategies targeting their demographic.

More than 40 years after his death, Elvis Presley remains one of the most famous and most easily recognized people in history. For the entirety of Presley's nearly 25-year career as "The King," his manager, "Colonel" Tom Parker, was the man who made all the career decisions. Frequently photographed with Presley, Parker became a celebrity in his own right, usually pictured chomping on a cigar.

Parker had a reputation for being incredibly protective of his relationship with Presley — and for isolating the singer and encouraging his descent into drug addiction and poor health, a cycle that resulted in Presley's early death at age 42. After incredible success in the 1950s, a period during which Presley came to define the new sound of rock and roll, his popularity plummeted in the 1960s after a stint in the Army and a series of lazy, poorly received films. Perception of Parker shifted, as he seemed to be mismanaging Presley's career into the ground, prioritizing short-term profits over long-term success.

Read More: https://www.grunge.com/309549/the-truth-about-elvis-presleys-manager/?utm_campaign=clip

Artists managers, who are also called talent managers, serve as the business managers of musicians. They handle negotiations and other business affairs of an artist or band. Since the musician needs to focus all his/her attention into making music, the artist manager serves as the promoter, agent or accountant. Artist managers also handle bookings, assist in promotions and perform production-related tasks. They ensure tours, gigs and other bookings are paid, unless otherwise agreed by the artist.

Magnetic tape changed the music business in the 1940s and 50s, after replacing direct disk cutting, which limited options for sound reproduction and manipulation. The flexibility of tape brought the need for both technical and creative skills in the control room, from which came the engineer and producer. Producers were generally drawn from the business side of a record company to take care of financial and administrative details, such as managing budgets and copyright registrations. Previously, they were artist and repertoire men, a music industry job title for those who took care of the business of making records.

https://woman.thenest.com/briefly-describe-role-producer-changed-1950s-22867.html

A music producer, or record producer, assists an artist with their recording project, bringing their vision to fruition and guiding their sound along the way. Being a music producer is in many ways a strange job. What a producer creates can’t be seen. What a producer creates is not even an object. If you zoom all the way out, what a music producer does for a living is this: Vibrate air molecules in such a way that when the air molecules bump up against a human life form, that life form feels something.

https://online.berklee.edu/takenote/music-production-what-does-a-music-producer-do/
