         <description><![CDATA[<div>The functions of an operating system are: </div><ul><li><strong>Security: </strong>Using password protection and preventing unauthorized access to programs and user data.</li><li><strong>Control over system performance: </strong> Records the response time between service requests and system response to have a complete view of the system health.</li><li><strong>Job accounting: </strong>Operating system keeps track of time and resources used by various tasks and users.</li><li><strong>Error detecting aids: </strong>It constantly monitors the system to detect errors and avoid the malfunctioning of computer system.</li><li><strong>Coordination between other software and users: </strong>Coordinates and assigns interpreters, compilers, assemblers and other software to the various users of the computer systems.</li></ul><div><br>This is a video that explains in a basic form the functions of an OS.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li><strong>Memory Management: </strong>Manages the Main Memory, which is a large array of words or bytes where each word or byte has its own address and provides a fast storage that can be accessed directly by the CPU.</li><li><strong>Processor Management: </strong>In a multi programming environment, the OS decides the order in which processes have access to the processor, and how much processing time each process has (process scheduling).</li><li><strong>Device Management: </strong>The operating system keeps tracks of all devices. It decides which process gets the device when and for how much time and also allocates the device in the efficient way. </li><li><strong>File Management: </strong>It keeps track of information, location, uses, status etc. Decides who gets the resources and allocates and De-allocates the resources.</li></ul>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The most common operating systems are: <strong>Microsoft Windows</strong>, <strong>Apple iOS</strong>, <strong>Google's Android OS</strong>,<strong> Apple macOS </strong>and<strong> Linux.<br>Microsoft Windows: </strong>Created in 1985, remains the most popular operating system for home and office computers. Its latest versions, including Windows 10, are used on some tablets, and the OS is used on some web and number-crunching server computers as well.<br><strong>Apple iOS: </strong>Launched in 2010, it's the second most popular smartphone operating system. Its latest version is iOS 14 and just runs on Apple hardware, including iPhones, iPad tablets and iPod Touch media players.<br><strong>Google's Android OS: </strong>Bought by google in 2005, it is the most popular operating system in the world judging by the number of devices installed and unlike iOS, it can be used on devices made by a variety of different manufacturers.<br>Apple macOS: Created in 2001, it is the successor to the popular OS X operating system. It runs on Apple laptops and desktops. <br><strong>Linux:</strong> It was created in 1991 and unlike many other operating systems, development on Linux isn't led by any one company.
