Support Topics:
1.) Suggestions for valuable assessments of student retention because my students do not take benchmarks seriously. How can I officially assess their understanding of the material without throwing another standardized test at them?
2.) An official mailed document from the county (or DPI) which informs a parent of their student's failing grade. Most parents (no matter how much we stress this) do not have access to Powerschool. We are asked at the end of each semester if we have contacted a parent of a child who has failed, but there is no guidance in how to do this officially.
3.) Tangible and concrete suggestions (handouts, modeling, differentiation strategies, etc. ) for improving reading comprehension and stamina.

**Please steer away from theory and digressions. Time is our most valuable resource.

1.) Reading Stamina exercises and resources. Ideally, help in locating varied sources of different level reading samples. I don't always want to throw them onto the computer for these practices but I need more material to draw from.
2.) Flipped classroom assistance. I could use resources demonstrating successful use of flipped classroom from similar school demographic/performance environment. I would like to implement more of this in the classroom, but I need better models for myself before trying.
3.) Assessment feedback. I need in-general methods and exposure to the varied ways of getting my kids to take assessment feedback in a more constructive manner: communication methods, etc.

1. My colleagues are so smart and I agree with their ideas. The Benchmarks/Baselines are good for the beginning of the semester and the kids seem to take these with some form of integrity, but the midterm and other benchmarks are jokes for these kids...we don't get great feedback for our data on these assessments.
2. ERPD with all English teachers in the district is often a chore. There are always good ideas and strategies to implement, but being TOLD when and how to teach a unit does not always work for every school, for every kid, or for every level of student. We should be allowed to glean from these resources as a school and update for our kids.
3. Our students need to be held accountable for their grades, behaviors and absences rather than being given too many chances to complete this work. Parents need to be held accountable somehow as well.

1. I agree with Emma-- stamina strategies would be a great resource. When I've watched the Proctor Dashboard on Schoolnet while the kids take their Benchmark, I've noticed they keep getting more and more wrong as they go.
2. I'm not sure if this is something that DPI can help us with, but I know other schools have had much greater success with the student laptops than we do at SHS. It takes me weeks to train my students to use technology in an appropriate way. Is there a handout or training that we can give the students at the beginning of the year to help with this?
3. I also agree with Alex-- tangible and concrete assignments are always VERY helpful. Any hands-on assignments that will keep the students interested and active while doing the assignment would be great (foldables, group assignments, etc.).

1. It seems that we are all on the same page concerning reading stamina. Strategies for helping students improve in that arena would be greatly appreciated.
2. I also agree with Alex on trying to improve retention. And, of course, assistance in getting students to take the benchmarks seriously.
3. Accountability - this probably crosses over into the taking tasks/benchmarks/etc. seriously.
4. I would also like some practical ideas for working with student populations like ours both digital and analog. :)
