This method has been quite successful, due to the fact that as said in the video, "deforestation activities in the Brazilian Amazon has slowed by more than 75 percent since 2004." and approximately 59,000 square kilometres of deforestation in the forest has been prevented over the years. . This method has been quite effective also due to the reason that fines were implemented if illegal deforestation occurs, access to business markets will be severed and equipments will be confiscated. Not only that, they also have a lot of equipment to work with, giving them an advantage, compared to the illegal loggers.
This method also "reduced carbon admissions from deforestation by 56 percent."

The only challenge that this solution faces is the fact that although they may manage to catch the illegal loggers red-handed, the trees can't be saved, and more often than not, they are too late, and the culprit had escaped. Although the rangers have high-tech equipment, the loggers do too, and technology nowadays are advanced enough to clear a whole patch of greenery with just one sweep of an iron chain. As said in the video, "all to often, they (the rangers) are still too late.". Better technology needs to be discovered and quicker methods of tracking needs to be implemented still, to ensure its best effect.

The Amazon rainforest covers 5.5 million square kilometers, and even with satellites flying overhead, someone has to be on the ground to enforce forestry laws as scale is a challenge for any government agency seeking to enforce wildlife law over a large area. The Brazilian government has power over rainforest crime with a series of high profile fines for violators by focusing their efforts to patrol roads that lead into the rainforest. Such focus by law enforcement is successful in increasing the efficiency of patrols over such a large area. 

Protected Areas 

Under this strategy, land is protected from intensive logging and agriculture. Currently, over half of the Brazilian Amazon is now designation as national parks or indigenous lands, effectively protecting an area larger than Greenland. However, land is still required to build things. 

Under this strategy, laws are set to protect an area in the rainforest from unfavorable activities such as cattle ranching, logging, farming, and building infrastructure. This strategy is effective in managing deforestation as farmers are scared to do illegal logging as they can be tracked down easily and fines can be issued to them.  In the Amazon, officers responsible for monitoring the protected areas may give in to corruption and allow loggers and miners to illegally enter protected areas. 

Under this strategy, there will be replanting of areas of forest which have previously been damaged or destroyed. This strategy successfully manages deforestation as the replantation of trees in the Amazon will replace the trees that have been damaged or destroyed by deforestation. Reforestation can help to fight against global climate change as trees play a critical role in absorbing the greenhouse gases that fuel global warming. More tress means lesser amount of greenhouse gasesentering the atmosphere—and decreased speed and severity of global warming. However, the downside to reforestation is that the trees need time to grow and the fastest a tree can reach maturity is ten years. Thus, this could prove a problem in the Amazon, where trees are being deforested at an unimaginable rate.
