That's how I decided I want to become a nurse. I want to become a nurse because I want to help people in their time of need, to be a shoulder to cry on or to be the cause of a smile in a sad moment.

I want to be a nurse because I love scientific subjects and because I am extremely fascinated by the human body, a machine that is so perfect and so balanced.

I want to be a nurse because I like to put myself out there and take on all the challenges that come my way and I know that this is the right profession for me.

My family has always supported me in my choice, but they have never influenced me, I believe that nothing and nobody has influenced me in my decision, I believe it was a choice that I matured over time and with awareness.

The text focuses on the subject of anaesthesia, a branch of medicine that is fundamental for the execution of surgical operations. In fact, in the first part of the text the meaning of this word is analysed, which is " a lost of physical sensations"; in fact, when a patient is under anaesthesia he is not able to perceive pain.

However, anaesthesia was invented in the 19th century and it was not like today's anaesthesia, because surgeons had to operate very quickly and very often patients died on the operating table. Furthermore, we can see that throughout history there has been a succession of different substances to produce the anaesthetic effect, such as ether, then chloroform and later intravenous agents. 

Later in the text the different forms of anaesthesia are described: we have local anaesthesia which numbs small areas of our body; regional anaesthesia which is used for operations on larger or deeper parts of the body; and finally general anaesthesia where the patient is unconscious and feels nothing.

The last part of the text talks about the monitoring systems which make anaesthesia much safer than in the past, in fact the cases of death caused by anaesthesia are very few, amounting to 1 in 250,000.

In addition, I would also like to be able to pass on all my passion and I would like to become a fundamental point in the training of my students, just as my tutors have been and are currently for me. I believe that the figure of the clinical tutor is fundamental for the training of nurses because he/she is the person who is able to clarify all the doubts and guide the students in their formative path. 

This nurse is very empathetic with her patients, she tries to spend as much time as possible with each of them to get to know their stories and in this way to be able to create a relationship of reciprocal trust which is essential in the care process. 

In addition, she is very precise in her work, and she also transfers this precision to me, she is very attentive to how I relate to patients, how I carry out procedures and every day she tries to give me some new advice so that I can improve more and more. In fact, a very special relationship of mutual trust has been created between us. 

Last but not least, she is a cheerful person, and this is very important in the atmosphere of the ward because it makes the patients forget, even for a second, the pain they feel and the absence from their families. 

I believe that in the future I will be able to become a good nurse because in my practical training periods I am already trying to create a good relationship with my patients, I try to be precise, and I ask a lot of questions. Above all I am trying to steal as much as I can from my nurses with my eyes in order to catch everything that could improve my knowledge and help me to become a good nurse.
