In some situations of the parent containing a balanced translocation connected to CDCS, prenatal testing can be done. In order to do this, two procedures, Amniocentesis and Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS) can be performed with about 98% accuracy, but with serious risks.
• Amniocentesis is performed after 15 weeks of pregnancy. It
involves a thin needle being inserted into the uterus.
Membrane fluid from the sac around the fetus is removed
and its chromosomes are analyzed. One in about 200-400
patients experience a miscarriage, and smaller effects such
as leaking fluid and cramps can also be experienced.
• CVS is performed between the 9th and 14th week of
pregnancy, and is carried out through the cervix or
abdomen. A small piece of tissue is taken from the placenta
and is also analyzed for its chromosomes. 0.5 - 1% of
women experience miscarriages who go through CVS.

There are no current cures for CDCS, however, there are many services and treatments that can help patients with CDCS to their lives normally. Depending on the severity of their condition, their treatments may vary.
• Physiotherapy, or physical therapy, can help improve their poor muscle tone.
• Speech therapy can help their slow-developing communication skills.
• Alternatively, learning alternative communication skills can help, like sign language, due to the severity of CDCS can potentially heavily delay their speech ability.
• Occupational therapy can help people with CDCS to learn basic tasks such as eating or talking to others.
• Behavioral therapy can help their behavioral problems, and can teach them social skills and communication.

In most cases of CDCS, patients can expect a normal life expectancy. In rarer cases however, some patients are born with organ deficiencies, such as heart and kidney problems, which in this case, can shorten their lives. Most deaths associated with CDCS happens around their first year of life. But besides these potential issues, most CDCS patients live over 50, and handicaps given to them by CDCS, such as learning struggles and speech patterns, can easily be fixed with treatments and therapy.

There are many groups and associations that do research on many similar conditions, including Cri Du Chat, such as ClinicalTrials.gov or the Genetic Testing Registry (GTR). There are even support groups dedicated to CDCS, such as the Cri Du Chat Syndrome Support Group and the 5p- Society. Much research has been put in CDCS, and although a current cure hasn't been found, researchers have found smaller things, such as one gene, CTNND2, for causing the loss in mental ability.
