On page 1, it says "Unlike people who are born in hospitals, in a ambulance, or in a taxicab, I showed up in an adobe cottage with a thatched roof that stood at one end of the only street of Jalcocotan...". The village was made specifically inside of the jungle for the safety of their lives and their loved ones, because if anyone was to ever attack they are protected by the trees and the dangerous animals who lurk the jungle. It says on page 3 "I also learned very early that the forest, el monte, was a dangerous place." also on page 2 it says "... thin hand cupped to shelter the village and it's people." . This is like another safe place that he can go to when he needs to be by himself away from his parents and life.
