As a student, I have done activities with news articles that I think could apply to the ESL/EFL classroom. I think that this genre of writing introduces students to academic and technical language that they will find useful. Several activities can be made that involve summarizing and reflecting on a news article.

We talked about how in the service courses you can use news articles to incorporate source reliability into your lessons and writing assignment. For the IEI RW context, we could use news articles to reinforce the concept of fake news and reliability by have Ss compare sources to see what facts of a story are consistent, etc. Definitely can be adapted for a variety of contexts!
