The Hollywood Blacklist was the practice of denying employment of directors, screenwriters, actors, musicians, etc. This all started by people being suspicious that Hollywood entertainment was inspired by communism. People during this time did not like communism and did not want the entertainment thy would watch in Hollywood to be followed or inspired or developed by communism. Due to this feeling, the employment of these positions and these people they were suspicious of, were denied. (ushistory.com).

As a young adult, He soon became a gang leader. At this time, people started to notice his ability to mimic well-known performers, both physically and facially. He also began to hang out and eventually spar at a boxing gym. He was approached by both Warner Bros. and Paromont before he asked for a clause in he contract that would allow him time off for stage work. Now Warner Bros. acceded to his demand, and Garfield signed a standard feature-player agreement—seven years with options—in Warner's New York office. (LA Times).

Ring Lardner Jr. was known for two big things, being the son of one of the greatest humorists american literature has produced, and he was one of the 10 movie producers that did not cooperate with the House Un-American Activities Committee. He was fined and jailed for defying the rules of this committee. Despite the biased hiring for film-makers during the 1930s and 40s, Lardner Jr. was one of the secret communists hired to be a film-maker. After his career had already taken off, a press conference was held and the question, "Are you a part of the Communist Party", came across and his career would never be the same. He eventually admitted to being a Communist and was fined and sentenced to a year in jail. After his time was served he was blacklisted and lead to him not being able to find work because of him being blacklisted. As a result of that he had to go under the
aleis, Martin Ransohoff and ended up winning his second Oscar. After his long, successful, and also bumpy career he was the last of the Hollywood 10 blacklist film-makers to die. He passed on October 31, 2000 at the age 85.
