Faber is an example of religion because he gives Montag hope in trying to allow people to read freely. In a way, Faber could be considered Montag's savior because he directs him into the path of knowledge. ''Montag-plus-Faber, fire plus water, and then, one day, after everything had mixed and simmered and worked away in silence, there would be neither fire nor water, but wine'" (Bradbury 103). Faber makes a religious reference to when Jesus turned water into wine.

The Bible

Montag decides to take a book during one of the burnings, which turns out to be the bible. This bible is one of the few bibles left on the Earth which, essentially, sparks his incentive to find out more about books. "'This is the old and New Testament, and...It might be the last copy in this part of the world'" (Bradbury 76). The finding of the bible pushes Montag towards reading and understanding books.

"Dover Beach" Poem

The Dover Beach poem is a symbol of religion because it describes the importance of religion. The poem describes a society where everyone is in pain because religion ceased to influence people. "'The Sea of Faith was once, too, at the full, and round earth's shore... But now I only hear its melancholy, long withdrawing roar'" (Bradbury 100).
