We speak about racial inclusiveness and racialized impact of homelessness, but are we doing this ourselves? We need a strong and renewed effort into organizing and bringing in more Black folks. Creating a plan of work for building our base.

-Horizontally organized, diverse, grassroots ethos, radically inclusive, and respectful of everyone, democratic decision making

-Like that the work culture is more informal and accepting of folks' expression.

-More respectful of each other- everyone- people can be kinda mean to each other at the COH- maybe this is because we have confusion and frustration right now, people get down on themselves and each other.

-We are a family but that doesn't mean we get to treat each other like shit

-A lot of people gravitate to the COH because of our informal culture, but it should be named and written out.

-Additionally hold the same respect we have for each other to folks who come into our org like unhoused folk- sometimes we let members from the unhoused community treat people very poorly and we let ppl do it because "they're traumatized, they're going thru shit" which is true, but we need better accountability and mediation. (this was emphasized by another group member)

-Transparency, we don't sugar coat shit, we are transparent with each other and our base.

-We did Prop C and I wanna see more of that. Coalition doing more work towards housing. Edging on the line of we know we're not service providers, but we could a part of the housing if we tried more. 

-we sometimes tack on the advocacy component onto what we do but really the policy advocacy is kind of separate from the organizing. We need to define whether we're revolutionary, reformist (working within the system), etc. We can do both but we need to decide where we spend our energy and what role the org takes. We can develop leaders to do the policy advocacy.

+ housing is such a transformative force in terms of addressing a whole lot of other stuff. it's a foundation for change - addressing joblessness, mental health, drug use, being able to start your own business or be able to parent, home is a prerequisite in a lot of ways - remove a huge barrier to success. Also important to address trauma, be able to lock doors and be with yourself - maya angelou quote - the ache for home lives in all of us. homelessness chips away at peoples psyches in a way that makes quality of life worse. Home is the center from which everything else can flourish

+ one things that could be named is that there would be less opportunity if everyone was housed to be be criminalized and incarceration would fall, less police shootings because targets of police violence are often homeless and people would live longer espec PWD who need safe placed to go to use life prolong equipment or sleep in a bed that doesn’t produce misery and pain.  If we are successful in facilitating political power we will have a lot more power to change systemic inequities because unhoused people have way more sharp analysis because they have seen policies state and injustice and we would have a lot more people to throw down with there movement as a whole!
