Compass
I would take a compass because if we get lost we will kind of know which way to go.

150 yards of cloth
I would take this because we need to have shelter from the bugs that are out there. Also the cloth can also be used to make sheets which is helpful lastly cloth is not very heavy so it will be easy to carry and use

mosquito curtains - We will need mosquito curtains because the musguito could carry diseases that we don’t want. Also the mosquitoes can be very annoying so they won’t let us sleep.

193 pounds of portable soup
This will be useful because we need food while on the journey and if we can’t catch food while we are there we can still eat because we have the portable soup.

10 1/2 pounds of fishing hooks and fishing lines
We need fishing supplies because we can discover new fish that are in the new waters and we can use the fish as a source of food.

33 pounds of tiny beads of assorted colors
We would bring beads because the Native Americans like to make things like necklaces so I think the Native Americans would like the beads so we will bring beads as presents.

We will bring 288 knives because the women will probably be the only ones who would like the beads so the men need something to do so we will give them knives. So they are happy with us and will not hurt us.

Coats
We will need coats if it is cold during the day or night and coats can be a good substitute for blankets because they both do the same thing which is keep people warm.

We will take 1 long-barreled rifle because we are not traveling to fight, we are going to explore and if we see Native Americans. Who want to fight we can just give them gifts so we can get through.

Diaphoretic
We will take diaphoretic because it will make us sweat more so we will be cooled down if it is two hot.

I would choose Captain William Clark because he was part of the military so he is a brave man who can lead people. Also he knows how to build forts, draw maps, lead pack trains through enemy territory, and fight the Indians on their ground.
Also since he can do these things it is very helpful because he knows a little bit about the land because he has fought the Indians on their land. He also knows alot about how to draw maps which is really helpful if we get lost. Another reason I will be choosing him is because we are bringing troops along and the troops will need someone to guide them and since he has military experience he can guide the troops.

I think that William Clark will be a good member for the team because he has many skills that our team needs. Some skills are knowing some of the land, drawing maps and more.
Also these skills are very useful because if we are ever stuck anywhere we will have a way to get out. I know this because if we ever need to sleep we will know how to make a fort to keep us out of danger. If we need to resolve conflict with the indians and the only way to resolve it is by fighting we will have someone to train the troops so they are ready to fight on enemy land. And this is good because William Clark has led a team against Indians on their land so he can do it again. Lastly I think these are some good qualities that our team could use.

And some of his abilities are crafting things out of wood, Hunting, and he is a good gunsmith and Blacksmith. This is very helpful because he can make tools out of wood that can help the team. He can also get the team food and teach others how to hunt so we can acquire more food when we are out there. He can also make weapons for us to use so we can hunt or fight.

Lastly I think that William Bratton is a good addition to the team because he is a young man and was considered one of the best young men which is really helpful because he will not get tired very easily because he is still young and will have more energy than the older members. While we were approaching the plant we realized the hill was stoney badland which was the best place to find bitterroot but we were not too sure because we had no way of knowing. But sadly since they were not sure and hadn’t seen one of them bloom so they decided to headout because they did not have time. So they decided to leave but when they were back at the same spot they decided to check it out again early in june of 1806.
They were right on time because one bloomed and they were able to get a specimen. But me and my crewmates wanted to examine the plant as well and it was beautiful. It was white closer to the middle and mostly pink and it was amazing.
We also wanted to know if it was edible but we were not sure but we later found out because elder women of a tribe have conducted the annual First Roots ceremony so you could harvest them. When they were harvesting them I asked one why they were harvesting them and she said for food. So we then knew that it was edible and it was highly nutritious. Lastly it was not good to eat alone because when it is boiled it looks like an unappetizing pink glob so people eat it in small portions or mix it in their soup. But it was not only good for eating, it was used as medicine so it could help relieve pain from a sore throat or get rid of a poison ivy rash.

Animal #1
Today we were out exploring and we saw a beaver near the Missouri and Columbia River corridors between St. Louis and the Pacific Ocean. Also lewis and clark wanted to get the beaver because the fur trade was a big way to get money and so Thomas Jefferson told them to find a way so America can be on top for the fur trade. So Lewis and Clark did that and they captured their first beaver on 22 July 1804, near present day Council Bluffs, Iowa. A total of 38 beavers were trapped and killed. Also their crewmates probably thought it was a little sad because they were there to explore but they ended up killing 38 beavers which is not very nice. Lastly the Beaver was very helpful because it was good for fur trading in which Britain was making a lot of money in.

But did not bother to closely look at it because he thought it was always the same flower. As Lewis and Clark went on their journey they kept on seeing the same plant but they never looked at it because they thought it was a waste of time looking at the same flower. Also every time Lewis looked at the flower he said it looks like a dog's tooth because of the shape and color of its roots. Later the plant was given the name Glacier lily because it appears in the Rockies, anyway at the edges of receding snowbanks. Also the other corps members found it to be a beautiful flower because it was yellow and white and it looked amazing. Also the corps loved it because it was edible and when you ate it raw it was like an onion but when you boiled the plant it was sweet and delicious. The Glacier lily was not really used for anything except for food.

Later Lewis and Clark found out that they made burrows in the ground. So they called them Ground rats and also the animals showed some unusual behavior because they did not move. Instead they decided to stay when Lewis and Clark showed up which is confusing to me because usually animals run when they see humans.

During the expedition Lewis and Clark encountered the Native American tribe known as Arikara Indians. The Arikara Indians lived in what is now northern South Dakota. But most of the villages are deserted because of the smallpox epidemic.
There were about 30,000 Native Americans in this area but because of the smallpox there are only about 2,000 of them still here.
The Arikara Indians were nice people who let us stay for 5 days. While we were their Patrick Gass a former carpenter was very impressed by the round covered lodges. Also during our stay we found out that the Arikara Indians are mostly farmers but when they can’t get enough food from farming they hunt buffalo for food.
The relationship between the corps and the Arikara was warm. But during their stay the corps found some stuff about what they wear. The men wore buffalo robes, leggings and moccasins, and many warriors wielded guns that they had acquired in trade. Women were clad in fringed antelope dresses.

There wasn’t any problem between the two groups but Lewis and Clark did help the Native Americans.
Lewis helped them by encouraging the Arikaras to make peace with the neighboring tribe and the neighboring tribe was consenting to it.
Also when we were there we were surprised to hear that they had never seen a black person. York was playing with the kids and he told them he was a wild creature and the people of the tribe started believing him. The adults were so astonished by his presence that they believed he had special spiritual power. They thought this because of his impressive size.

Location #1: Fort Clatsop
Fort Clatsop is located along the Lewis and Clark River at the north end of the Clatsop Plains approximately 5 miles southwest of Astoria. Also the fort was used as a camp for Lewis and Clarks team because it was winter time so they needed a place to stay. Also the fort was made by them, it was not already there Clark sketched a preliminary site plan of two parallel rows of cabins joined by gated palisades on either end and the construction was well under way on December 13. In 1806 after the fort was done and all that the fort started diminishing. Fort clatsop was located in the area where the clatsop tribe lived and I think that they must have helped them a lot with things like food.
Also the Clatsop tribe mostly ate things like salmon and berries and they helped the corps of discovery by telling them hunting tips and sharing some of their food. The people part of the corps were mostly christian and the Clatsop tribe believed in a great spirit and that consisted of a mythology based on protective spirits and animal deities. One of their most important rituals of the Chinook tribe was the First Salmon feast which honored the salmon. Many different animals also lived in the area the fort was built in like beavers and prairie dogs. Also the temperatures ranged from 47° to 67° F/8° to 19° C.
Average minimums range from 35° to 53° F/2° to 12° C. The absolute location of Fort Clatsop is 46°07'43.6"N 123°53'28.9"W. The tribes that lived near Clatsop didn’t really have an economy because they didn’t manufacture anything but they did grow food and trade with others. Also the people part of this tribe wore different things from what the Americans wore the men of the tribe wore a breech-clout and women wore short skirts made of cedar bark or grass.

Location #2: On-A-Slant Village
On October 20, 1804 Lewis and Clark found a village on the Side of a hill and its chief was Too né tels. Also the chief said that the people of their tribe lived in a number villages on each Side of the river and the Troubleson Seauex caused them to move about 40 miles higher up. This was related to Lewis and Clark because it was one of the first villages they had found that was on the side of a mountain.
