Von Bülow’s speech before the Reichstag explains the importance of Germany adapting and creating a larger military in order to defend their country. Von Bülow explains that, “we don’t want our own feet tramped by any foreign power” (Doc D). He also proclaims, “there is no welfare for us without power, without a strong army and strong fleet”(Doc D). Von Bülow’s arguments explain Germany’s increase in military spending because the Germans are becoming increasingly nervous of the rising world powers surrounding them such as France, Russia and Great Britian. Germany’s belief of survival of the fittest resulted in their militarianism, which also justifies the idea that militarianism was an underlying cause of World War 1 because other nations followed suit by expanding their militaries as well.

Evidence is the peace of Europe dead on a table with a dagger or knife in her. This proves my argument that alliances caused enforced the war because with alliances they wanted to "help" eachother with the war but it was really deteriorating the amount of money they had and how many men they had.

In the chart, the increase of armaments was at its highest in 1914 for all countries. Germany's decision to contribute to the war was because of how strong they felt and how confident they were in their military (Doc C). Militarism was one cause of World War 1 because countries fought for superiority through powerful forces. Because of the increase in their navy and army, this was able to spark anger and belief in their country to fight back.

Alliances were a underlying cause of world war. There was 2 Alliances, triple alliance and the tripe entente. (Doc A) The alliances caused tension in Europe, as an example. Serbia wanted to unite bosnia and serbia however Austria did not want this to happen. So Austria prepared to go to war with Serbia. In doc A, you can see how close the nations are to each other and how a war would be bad in such area. However, if Austria declares war with Serbia. Serbia is in Alliance with Russian. So this would be a war of both alliances causing a world war.

In the graph titled, Growth of Armaments, the statistics exemplify the great increase in weapons and its overall correlation to the growth of violence. For example, as tensions increased leading up to the war, the prevalence of artillery became greater in countries such as Great Britain; there was about a 40 million dollar increase in artillery expenses between 1890 and 1914(doc C). Therefore, it is apparent that the steady growth of armaments in countries, known as militarism, caused an appreciable rise in tensions, and essentially, was a significant underlying cause of the war.

In a speech written by Bernhard von Bülow, he spoke his mind on the control that England, France, and Russia had. The three nations began to conquer a lot of land sparked fear that Germany would be aggressive in the future. (Doc D). This fear of aggressive behavior through impearlism was an underlying cause of the war.

In the graph, Growth of Armaments, An arms build up might have lead to peace because most countries would have strong armies. From 1890 to 1914 each country shown was putting more money unto their armies and miliaries. They would think twice before starting a war since it would cause a lot of damage and cost a lot of lives. Usually wars are agreed upon if a country believes it can win. If two powerful countries are in an argument, they might refrain from war to be smart.
