         <description><![CDATA[<div>Activist began a 19 month occupation of Alcatraz Island. The group occupied the island, hoping to reclaim the rock “in the name of all American Indians.” In their proclamation, activists stated that Alcatraz was “more than suitable for an Indian reservation, as determined by the white man’s own standards." They raised awareness on the terrible conditions of the Indian Reservations.</div>]]></description>

The Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation of Arizona won the struggle when Interior Secretary James Watt announced that Orme Dam would not be built. The dam, if built, would have flooded more than half the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation reservation, including the farmland and remnants of their ancestral homeland.</div>]]></description>

This name change was because many people including Native Americans found the team name offensive.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Sacagawea became the first Native American placed on a US-issued currency. The US mint placed her on the dollar coin. This was done in honor of her good deeds, guiding Lewis and Clark on their mission through the Pacific Ocean. From 2002 to 2008, production stopped when the user-demand dropped, and again in 2012 and has not been manufactured since then for circulation in the US economy. However, they are still minted for collectors purpose, and are quite rare to see.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Indigenous People Civil Rights movement has been very successful over the years. They started off constantly being discriminated in society, to becoming respected and equal in today's society. They have pushed against the odds to gain their own rights and erase implicit racism in today's world. However, the movement is not completed yet. They are still pushing in today's world to help not only better the treatment of their own people but also the world in general. </div>]]></description>
