You have to have a bachelors degree in social work for an entry-level position.  Social workers usually work in mental health clinics, schools, child welfare and human service agencies, hospitals, settlement houses, community development corporations, and private practices. They work full time and may need to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Most social workers need a bachelor’s degree in social work, clinical social workers must have a master’s degree and 2 years of post-master’s experience in a supervised clinical setting. Clinical social workers must  be licensed in the state that they did their practice in.

You have to have your master's degree.The degree should be in school counseling or a related field and have a state-issued credential. Some employers would rather you have a masters degree if you are a career counselor. School counselors work in public and private schools. Career counselors work in colleges, government agencies, career centers, and private practices. Both types of counselors generally work full time.
