<title>My literate self did not stop at reading as a kid, I also was inspired to write. Below are a few silly books that I wrote in elementary school.&amp;nbsp;</title>

<title>After years of having stories read to me, I was more then ready to start reading on my own. Along with reading books I would often announce what was said on passing billboards and signs to the whole car.&amp;nbsp;</title>

<title>My parents started my years of literacy by reading to me every night. &quot; The Kissing Hand&quot; By Audrey Penn, is a story I remember my mom reading to me every night before a big event, like the first day of school or camp. The kissing hand is something my mom always gave me when I was scared. This book comforted me, helped me grow closer with my mom, and gave me excitement to read myself.&amp;nbsp;</title>

<title>As a child I always looked up to my older siblings. They could read chapter books and do long math problems. I longed to be like them especially in reading. This is a picture of my brother and I on the swing set in my backyard. I did not know it at the time but this spot became my favorite place to read over the years. Reading outside made me feel more connected with the story. I could truly travel to the places being talked about in the books because there were no four walls closing me in.&amp;nbsp;</title>

<title>To this day I still have a love for reading. Although I do not get to read much for pleasure while at school, I always make sure to stop at the library each break to pick up a book I have been dying to read. I also now have a passion for others literacy as well as my own. I have been thinking a lot lately of possibly becoming a reading specialist. Below is a picture from the Children&#39;s Book Bank that my Mizzou Alternative breaks trip served at. I was inspired by the dedication the community has toward supporting children&#39;s literacy.&amp;nbsp;</title>

<title>Dancing also taught me how to communicate better with others. Especially in high school when I started to choreograph dances, I would have to be very descriptive and describe movements in multiple ways in order for others to truly understand. </title>

<title>Dancing also made a big impact on my literacy. I learned new words, some even in different languages. I also learned that sometimes words can not truly describe what one is feeling. Sometimes dance can portray something that could never be found in a book.&amp;nbsp;</title>

<title>This is me on one of my younger birthdays. I had just become a avid reading and had gotten in the habit of checking many library books out on my moms card. My mom notices this and decided that this birthday should would get me my very own library card. Sometimes the best gifts in life can be free. Having my own library card was so exciting so I kept on reading and checking out books such as &quot;Junie B. Jones&quot;, and &quot;Where the Sidewalk Ends.&quot;&amp;nbsp;</title>
