Tick-Tock, Seven O'Clock - August 26, 2026

The house awakes the humans who aren't there, like they do everyday. As if automatically, the kitchen began making breakfast. The toaster quickly, "ejected eight pieces of perfectly brown toast, eight eggs sunny side up, sixteen slices of bacon, two coffees, and two cool glasses of milk." (Bradbury 1). This shows that in the future, humans become more dependant on electronics. You can also here today's events that were placed on the calendar, "Today in Mr. Featherstone's birthday. Today is the anniversary of Tilita's marriage. Insurance is payable,
as are the water, gas, and light bills." (Bradbury 1). In the future this would help people not forget what they have on their calendar if they don't look at their calendar at least once a day.

No one was in the house. "No doors slammed, no carpets took the soft tread of rubber heels." (Bradbury 1). The rain trickled down from the sky and the weather box, that sat on the porch, sang "'Rain rain go away; umbrellas, raincoats for today...'" (Bradbury 1). The garage door opened like it does everyday. The car sat there untouched, awaiting for it to be driven to work. By now, the eggs looked like a white raisin and the toast was as hard as a rock. A steel scraper scrapped them into the sink and began to rinse and place the dishes in the dishwasher.

Tiny robotic mice ran from the walls. Scurrying around the floor they began to clean. Within minutes the floor was covered in tiny robotic animals cleaning. Like an apocalypse, "they thudded against chairs, whirling their moustached runners,
kneading the rug nap, sucking gently at hidden dust." (Bradbury 1). And just like that they were gone in a flash, hidden in their barrows, their electric pink eyes fading, with the house clean, awaiting tomorrow.

The sprinklers were turned on and sprayed the yard. Next to the yard lay the rubble left from the smoldering ashes. In the lawn, lay a painting: a silhouette of a man mowing the lawn, a woman bent down in her flower bed picking flowers, and a small boy and girl playing catch in the yard. Now, filling with water, the garden lay untouched. A sparrow flying around, brushed against the window, "the shade snapped. The bird, startled, flew off! No, not even a bird must touch the house!" (Bradbury 2). It's like the house was a person.

The dog went to every door barking and yelping, the dog then realized that the house was empty and that no one would come and feed him. The dog was drooling at the mouth, it started sniffing for a human scent, it then started spinning in circles, biting its tail, then all of a sudden it died.

The beds were ready for someone to come lay in them, but no one was home. At 9:05 p.m. the study ceiling had asked Ms. McClellan what book she wanted to read a story, but since there was no answer, the house said they will pick one at random. There was then quiet music in the background and a poem was being read but there was no one in the house.
