How does the first 2/3rds of the novel relate to the hero's journey we read about in the last section of the novel?

The first 2/3rds of the novel sets up the dilemma for the Amir's hero's journey. Without everything that happened with Amir and Hassan, there would be no purpose for Amir to come back home. His connection with Hassan is why Amir had a hero's journey in the first place. Amir felt obligated to help Hassan's son to try to make up for his and Baba's sins. Amir's past caught up with him, and this connected him Sohrab. The first 2/3rds of the novel also shows the connection between characters and gives us background as to why they act the way that they do.
