Without everything that happened with Amir and Hassan, there would be no purpose for Amir to come back home. His connection with Hassan is why Amir had a hero's journey in the first place. Amir felt obligated to help Hassan's son to try to make up for his and Baba's sins. Amir's past caught up with him, and this connected him Sohrab.
