Passed in 1820

The Missouri Compromise made Missouri a slave state. The compromise caused a dispute in Congress between those who were pro and anti slavery because the compromise prolonged slavery and the anti slavery faction disliked that. This eventually leads Congress to become even more split up, which leads to other events such as Bleeding Kansas then to the Civil War.

October 16, 1859
John brown and his army of 18 men tried to start a rebellion in Harpers Ferry, Virginia by arming slaves that would join him. Unfortunately they didn't join him and he was trialed and sentenced to death. This caused a greater divide between the North and south. This lead to the Civil War because many in the North saw John Brown as a hero and in the South they saw him as crazy.

As new states in the United States are being formed from newly acquired territory, the way that helped calm down the tension between the North and the South was by forming equal amounts of slave and free states. This also strengthened the Fugitive Slave act which compelled Northerners to return and seize escaped slaves causing even more hostilities between the North and South leading to the Civil War. .

Happening in 1854, Kansas-Nebraska Act overturned the Missouri Compromise, meaning that the residents would determine of the area was a free state or not. Anti-Slavery groups and Pro-Slavery groups fought to win, causing deaths. This also played a role during the Civil War, Kansas suffered the highest rate of fatal casualties of any Union state, largely because of its great internal divisions over the issue of slavery.

In addition to showing in the claim that you're using the required skills (in this case, analyzing a cycle of conflict and cooperation), you want to use your evidence and reasoning to show that as well. You're doing a really nice job explaining the cause and effect nature of many of the events leading to southern secession, but you're not showing that you're identifying and using a cycle to think about this. Continue to work on using reasoning to explain how you're using the required thought process to guide your thinking.
