According to Merriam-Webster, 'coming of age' is defined as "the attainment of prominence, respectability, recognition, or maturity". In my opinion, 'coming of age' is the idea of a particular time or event in which a person becomes mature. There can be multiple 'coming of age' moments throughout one's life, and they can occur at any age. I believe Nick Carraway, our narrator, experiences a 'coming of age' event throughout the summer spent with Gatsby. At the beginning of the novel, he's presented as a trustworthy do-gooder. Now, he's experienced conflict within his own mind and has developed opinions about the people of West and East Egg.

Coming of age means to grow up or get to a certain age. An example could be drinking. Like 21 is when you’re legally allowed to drink in the US. So that could be coming of age. Or 18 is when you’re legally an adult so that could be coming of age. I think coming of age could be interpreted different ways and have many different meanings to different people.

It’s when you can take care of yourself and thrive on your own without the help of your parents. An example would be in the glass castle when they move to New York and live on their own.

I think the age for this is 18 that is when u official are free to do what ever you want you can vote and you are leaving the house to go to college. I think a good example is the first Clifford
book because it’s all about his struggles of growing up and being enormous. However by the end he is matured and every thing goes well.

So it would follow them through their life until they mature, a good example would be story of The Glass Caslte. And it doesn't necessarily have to follow someone to adulthood.

Coming of age means to me a renaissance of maturity and a way of thinking. It is a welcoming of new ideas of way of looking at the world. It can happen at any age but its some kind of evolution to a greater state.
For example I had a coming of age in sixth grade when I started working really hard and dealing with sports at the same time for the first time. I learned time management and how to put effort into everything I do. I came to learn that in what ever I did I needed to do the best I can because I knew I could do it.

Coming to age is maturing throughout time. This could also be the time when a person reaches adulthood or old enough to do something or old enough to not do something. For example in the Great Gatsby it says, " We're getting old, said Daisy. If we were young we'd rise and dance"(128). In this quote it is shows how Daisy has come to age or matured enough to not dance around like they use too. This quote shows how coming to age can also stop things that you did in the past.

So coming of age is where someone grows out of there innocence. They come to an age where they realize everything isn't a fairy-tale. They come to age where they see the world through new fresh eyes. They see the world through the eyes of maturity. My favorite book is a "coming of age story". To Kill a Mockingbird is one of my favorite books because I learned so much from it and also I read it in eighth grade where I was getting older and almost coming of age myself. So I could really relate to Scout while reading this book.

This usually happens when a person is around 17 or 18, which is when they can independently make decisions about their own life. One example of this is in the native american ritual in which a young man is left alone to survive in the wilderness for a week, and if he lives, he is inducted as a "man" into the tribe.

coming of age means to move on into independence or at least semi-self reliance, however in certain cultures the actual numerical age itself can and will vary. Ultimately it means to reach a point of recognizable maturity that leaves you with the ability to do most things without an adult or guardian. An example could be that in America when you turn 18 you are able to vote and purchase tobacco, and can qualify for more jobs since our culture recognizes 18 year old's as "grown".
