The euphoria around the consecration of child Rama at his new abode has gripped the world. We all have grown up on the stories of his heroism narrated to us by our parents and grandparents. A few generations later unfortunately were exposed only to the TV serials that followed the initial success of Ramanand Sagar’s pioneering version. In India we have the practice of defying humans and humanising deities. If we cut the political cutter around the consecration and delve deeper into the character of Ram we have a sea of virtues gems. I have made a humble attempt to summarize my understanding of Ram in the paragraph below. I look forward to each one of you as a parent interpret his character based on your understanding and share it with your children as you witness the ceremony and light the lamps in your abode. We will be delighted to know how you have shared your understanding with your children and look at a few pictures if your celebration at home. Use the padlet link given under.

Rama's life is a tapestry woven with threads of adversity, yet he remained an unwavering beacon of hope and resilience. From the exile in the forest to the abduction of his beloved wife Sita, Rama faced numerous trials. However, with each challenge, he transformed adversity into an opportunity for triumph. Banished from his kingdom, he embraced the ascetic life with grace and dignity. When Sita was abducted, Rama embarked on an arduous journey to rescue her, turning a personal tragedy into a heroic quest. His unwavering faith, coupled with an indomitable spirit, allowed him to transcend the trials that befell him. Rama's life exemplifies the profound ability to rise above despair, turning setbacks into stepping stones towards eventual victory, teaching us the enduring power of hope and resilience in the face of life's tribulations. In today's world, young people are often confronted with feelings of despair, even when faced with seemingly small obstacles. This is a stark contrast to the resilience demonstrated Ram. Social media has only added to these challenges, where receiving a certain number of likes or gaining acceptance from one's peers can lead to deep distress. It's troubling to see how some teenagers, overwhelmed by these pressures, give in to despair and sometimes even take extreme actions. If we are able to expose our generation to the qualities of Ram we will be able to raise a generation of resilient humans. Despite facing numerous hardships, Rama remained steadfast and determined. He could have easily been broken by his exile and the kidnapping of his wife, Sita, but instead, he emerged stronger, setting an example for us to follow. Taking inspiration from Ram’s unwavering determination, the younger generation can effectively navigate the intricacies of present-day society with a tenacious mindset. Recognizing that obstacles do not signify failure but rather opportunities for growth can cultivate a sense of optimism and perseverance, ultimately nurturing the kind of mental strength required to confront difficulties and nurture a resilient and grounded group of individuals.

Lord Rama, a pivotal figure in Indian mythology and the hero of the ancient Hindu epic, the Ramayana, stands as an emblem of virtue and righteousness. Born as the eldest son of King Dasharatha of Ayodhya, Rama is revered not only as a divine incarnation of Lord Vishnu but also as a model of moral excellence. His life story, rich in trials and triumphs, epitomizes the virtues of dharma (duty), truth, and honor. Rama's unwavering adherence to these principles is most profoundly illustrated in his fourteen-year exile, accompanied by his devoted wife Sita and loyal brother Lakshmana, and his epic battle to rescue Sita from the demon king Ravana. This story, transcending centuries, continues to influence and inspire countless generations, symbolizing the victory of good over evil. Lord Rama's legacy, deeply ingrained in Indian culture and celebrated in the festival of Diwali, resonates not just as a religious symbol, but as a beacon of hope and moral integrity in a complex world.

His epitomes are marked on our culture, compassion and virtue. His character as the ideal Son, ideal Disciple, perfect Brother, excellent friend, ideal fighter and ideal king has been attracting mankind from age to age. Even today the paragon of governance is Ram Rajya.

The meaning of the life of Lord Ram is only one word, and that is 'duty'. He always considered duty as the root of life. Fourteen years of exile were passed for performing duty and sacrificing his wife Sita on the dusty path to his life. Younger brother Laxman, who was a companion of happiness and sorrow, did not be tempted to separate himself from him. Never let love fall in the path of duty to anyone. It is their dutifulness that the whole of 'Bharat chants their name and considers their existence to be sacred. It was this dutifulness that lifted them from humans and brought them to par with the gods. He is considered adorable and an incarnation of God. His life teaches us that it is very difficult to walk on the path of duty. But only by the proper performance of duties, we can become dignified men.

 ॥जय श्री राम॥

Vipul Choudhary

IX-C
