Artist: Jovanna Radic Eriksson
Title: Back Collage Print
Year created: Unknown
Material/Medium: Original is made of water color, Makes copies on prints

I find this artwork to be beautiful in my eyes because woman are often judged by the figures of their body. Whether we are skinny and slim rather than "heavy-weighted", if we have stomach rolls or stretch marks and even by the color of our skin. I believe that this artist is one of many others to show appreciation of women's body. That we are beautiful. I am not sure there's much of a story behind it as far as I have looked. I chose this artwork because I admire women who are confident enough to show their perfect imperfections. I can somewhat relate as I still struggle on that part.

Once I saw this art piece, I was drawn in by the beauty. Walker noticed there were energy manifestations starting to appear in her artwork. "She developed the use of meditation whilst painting to connect with the energies she felt were trying to been seen and heard." (North East Art Collective https://northeastartcollective.co.uk/product/blissful-fire-angel-naomi-walker/) I chose this artwork because I am still discovering more and more of my spirituality everyday; furthermore, I love to see any kind of art about spirituality.

I hate going anywhere such as a zoo where animals are locked in a cage for people's amusement. I find it beautiful to see animals in their own free world. The way the bird person is made caught my eye when I first saw it. Surrounded by gold is the depiction of a winged runner holding something. To me, it shows that talented artists indeed exist back in A.D. and it makes me curious as to how they were able to craft it.

This piece is beautiful to me because of its handmade intricacy. The lotus flower above the basin at the bottom is typical of Asian art, and as it represents purity so the color of this sculpture is very fitting. I believe it tells a story. Since the lotus is a plant that grows out of water, ducks are birds that sit on water, and of course, the basin at the bottom would implicitly hold water, this piece has an overall aquatic theme. When incense is burned, I imagine that the smoke has an ethereal quality that would represent either water or steam rising from the water.

I chose this artwork partially because I love Asian Art. In general, incense is seen as cleansing in Chinese culture. I was never really allowed to burn incense when I was younger since my mother always hated it. Because it is supposed to ward off negative energy, it is used a lot in ceremonies such as funerals, which I'm sure is why my mother disliked it so much. This piece is aesthetically beautiful but I also chose it because it feels enigmatic and taboo due to my own fascination with incense.

This piece of art is beautiful for me because it represents a real struggle. It expresses the belief that black slaves were more than the work that they produced. This painting is said to portray their dignity, but I see their humanity as well. I think depictions of slavery such as this are important as it shows the struggle that black people endured and serve as a testament to how far black people have come in society--from the sharecroppers in this picture. It is a reminder of how black people were looked down on and acknowledges the scars that many people today seem to assume that time has erased.

I chose this artwork because I'm very personally attached to art that shows the struggles of black people. My lineage on my father's side is from the Slave Coast along the border of West Africa so when I think about being American, I remember what it took for my ancestors to be here.

This art is not traditionally beautiful in that it pleases the senses per se. But it is beautiful in the story that it tells. As the title, The Metamorphosis of Narcissus eludes to this painting tells the story of Narcissus falling in love with his own reflection. It attempts to show you how fallible perception can be and though narcissism is an ugly trait, the depiction of this perception is beautiful.

I chose this piece not just because I love Dali's art. There are many other things I enjoy about this painting. When I was very little, I used to stare at Prince's album cover for Around the World in a Day. I felt like I noticed something new every time. This painting reminds me of that. I love how complex the background is. I feel because you can notice something new every time, it gives you a whole new experience each time you look at it. I don't necessarily relate to it, but like Prince's album cover, this piece feels almost musical and by observing it over and over again, I am concentrating on and noticing every note.

I would hang this in my house.

Mucha's work is very elegant, and this is a wonderful example. It's almost comforting in a way. The low contrast, the idealized features, the symbolism and the symmetry, and the geometry of it feels like visual comfort food. It is detailed and has a complexity to it, but the way in which it provides the viewer with what the mind expects to see helps us feel at ease while looking at it. There's no trick to it, it just looks lovely.
This is the kind of art my wife loves. I can't say I blame her; we have enough challenges day to day that being challenged by art every time we look at it can feel like a chore sometimes. Some days I just want macaroni and cheese, and sometimes you just want the place you live to look a little more pleasant.

This is one of two pieces that complement one another. The other is called "Work Nr. 217 ELP I (Brain Salad Surgery)" and it depicts what looks like the full feminine face that is here depicted only in part, within the central circle. These together imply that we are looking underneath the face to see the skull and the machinery within. Giger's biomechanical work was designed to make us think about technology and our relationship to it. It expresses the horror and pain caused by the convergence of technology and humanity.
Giger is a very uncomfortable artist, but this discomfort is designed to shock us into thinking about our lives and society. This piece in particular makes me think about the legacy of humanity, whether there will be machines left running if and when humanity no longer exists and what that would say about us as a species.

I do love work like this because not only is it fascinating to look at, it's related to a larger conversation about consumerism and popular media. This is Murakami's classic "superflat" style, which codes superficiality into traditionally positive-looking images. The "too happy" look is meant to remind us of advertising and marketing, which plays on our emotions to manipulate our desires.
Murakami's work is a commentary on Japanese pop culture. This makes it more interesting to me, because I do enjoy manga, anime, and videogames from Japan. This style of pop culture has also grown in the United States as well, which makes this type of art and its message relevant.

This artwork aims to show the audience her drawings and prints move from the intimacies of sexual jealousy and conflict. The composition and color maximize the discomfort of the viewer. It is flaps of skin that peel off her pastel bodies is your own. This artwork is beautiful to my eyes because, in today’s society, everyone mainly focuses on people’s looks as attractiveness other than what’s on the inside. It expresses a lot of physical and emotional space to the view and itself. Everybody is beautiful in its way. It takes a lot to be able to be secure about your own body. This image is compelling to many women. I chose this artwork because many women in the world deal with a lot of their body appearance, trying to build the body for society to accept it, to feel more attractive to others. I can relate to this because I deal with many insecurities about my body and try my best to work on myself to make myself feel more secure and accepted by others, to look a certain way for myself or others.

The purpose of this artwork is to show the world what and how mental health awareness looks. Mental health is a crucial aspect to many people, and no one truly realizes its effects on people daily. We see society so passionate and bonded over social justice. The rights of people, don’t get me wrong, are essential to our community, but we also need to focus more on other aspects that affect others mentally—being able to help others find the help they need and deserve. People who deal with mental health can realize that they are not alone and can overcome so much. This image is compelling before it gives powerful meaning to the world. So much beauty and light on the outside, but behind all that, a person is struggling, fighting to keep moving forward. No one notices the pain and suffering; that is because one hides it within a fake smile.

This artwork aims to show the audience deeper thinking on why the artist drew what she drew. Many ask whats the purpose of the image, what inspired the artist with such imagination. I chose my artwork because it has more meaning than many art pieces I have ever created. I made the first-ever art piece because it shows a lot of emotion; pain, suffering and holding on to something that can either destroy you or revive you. It is beautiful to my eyes because it represented me around those years. Within those years, many things were happening in my life that just affected my mental health so much I couldn’t take it anymore. But I was still holding on, even the slightest bit. It is a robust dark art piece, but it shows a message; no matter the darkness surrounding you, there is always that piece of hope, slightest of light or color that guides you to continue.

This artwork caught my eyes with the image of the mother and her son. I can relate it to previous generation women. Women in the East in particular are the role models for taking care of children. In the past, women were housewives at home, taking care of children, doing housework, and taking care of the food so they often don't get the respect of society as men. But we were not aware that how strong our moms were. Nature created a woman with vocations that men cannot carry. The shapes and curves in this piece are purposefully primordial, and the vibrant leaves and flowers lend a touch of nature. There are trees and fruits which also evoke images of nature. It reminds me of a mother's instinct and the supernatural abilities of women are also natural. The traditional art style of the South Pacific is used by vibrant hues that merge and complement one another which leads to the balance overall. The painting that seems to be more beautiful when the woman carrying her child stands in the front prominently also shows me that women become strong and unyielding when they become mothers.

The character's feeling in this piece is the clearest, thus I choose it for the expression. People can choose to express their emotions either inside or outwardly, and this man has chosen to do so. His eyes widened as the man in the painting was taken aback by something dreadful. Unconsciously, he opened his mouth wide. It was the look of someone who was surprised, perplexed, and terrified. It might portray the narrative of someone's death or an unexpected incident through his expression. That man may as well face his own death by being murdered, I suddenly thought. However, the man's look might be purposely exaggerated to convey his terror.

I find this artwork to be impressive because it's filled with improvisation. The lines and shapes are drawn incompletely and full of abstraction. It's hard to tell who is the "person" and who's the "bird". But I find it beautiful because of the uniqueness and weirdness of the piece. The indistinctness makes me focus on the artwork more. The patches of color that were painted over made me feel like it was smeared and spilled with water. Normally, birds are hunted by humans, but in this work, the hunted object is a human. It is an absurdity to condemn the inhuman act of disorganized hunting artisans.

I consider this in my own personal eyes beauty as this is where humble beginnings and strength is created where beauty is made and where a long journey starts for a young person. The way that this young man/woman is starting their life in the slums builds character for the person to strive and try to become better for their own sake of for their own families sake knowing that they have been working their life for ages and that there should be something changed. A new beginning for all to see and to all to live by to change their scene of life and become better from what they once where. The main reason in choosing this is to as it connects to me from Mexico and seeing this land and the work being done as you can still see this in Mexico and many other empty lands as they are usually big land owners with small farms to work on as it connected to me with my history in Mexico and my raising and how I was brought up as well as the beauty of the land.

Even as a storm is ongoing and the waves are becoming rough, the two continue hauling fish through their nets since they know they or their families will go hungry if they return on land with nothing. I think it demonstrates perseverance as they make their way through perilous conditions in a boat so small it seemed it could capsize at any moment. It reminded me of my grandfather’s account of coming to the U.S. on a boat from Vietnam.

Flowers always resembled beauty , they were always used to make artifacts beautiful. Flowers meant to blossom and gloom. The colors were always radiant. And the scent were always strong. The power for a flower is strong they start as seeds and grow to become something to admire. Wether it’s from a far or up close or painted. When you want to capture the the world outside your thoughts are always what do the flowers look like ? What do the flowers make you feel like ? What do the flowers mean to you ?. Flowers are meant to show a beauty in life. I’ve always loved sunflowers I may think I’m a dark person for liking things creepy but I’m a sucker for sunflowers they bring out the light in the grass and the wind. They bring out the blue in the sky and the sun radiates the beautiful colors in the flower itself. I picked this particular painting because I myself like to imagine us as humans as flowers we start as seeds and grow to become a flower. We go where the wind takes us and where the sun shines as much as we want to sit in the rain we still blossom.

Evidence for this includes the Pillar of the Boatmen, discovered beneath the cathedral in 1710. In the 4th or 5th century, a large early Christian church , was built on the site, close to the royal palace. This was a sanctuary to everyone. It played an important role in religious and secular life. As the seat of the bishop, Notre Dame was the most significant religious building in the city. Its size and luxury symbolized the power of the church and the authority of the bishop. I picked this because I always loved the way the architecture looked. I never understand a lot of the history till today. I always wanted to visit Paris to see this church but it was on fire in April of 2019.

I also imagine this to look like a women trying to dramatically fall on to the sofa. It just seems so out of a vintage house. I feel safe looking at this painting I don’t know what it is it just reminds me of movies with the women running down the castle halls and finding herself in a room , plopped up on a sofa while the dramatic music plays as she sobs quietly. I really love those dramatic movies so that’s something this painting definitely reminds me of those type of movies. I picked this particular one because your always trying to fix yourself up for anything and everything but particularly for me id be the best angle for a photo.

Panccrazio, from Views of Rome
1776
Etching on heavy ivory laid paper

What made it so beautiful for me was all the little details and how vast the etching is. I just find it really amazing how the dimensions are. It seems extremely difficult to etch this piece because of how close it starts off but gets so small as it goes off in the distance. Especially being etched in 1776. How hard it must have been to etch the people in the far distance but you can clearly see that they are people not just a dot or something.

I don’t really believe it really tells a story as much as it is just a picture of a landscape that the artist must have seen in person and etched what he saw. It is extremely impressive.

I chose it because knowing what I know now about art and etching (still very little) it looks like the most difficult to finish with all the intricate details. The buildings in the background, the sky, the images of people must have been so tedious to complete.

It wasn’t too graphic or overwhelming to me. Although this is a monumental painting, it was just the right amount of people witnessing it and the background and overall painting was just right in my humble opinion. I believe it was meant to unify and connect us but sadly we have lost more humans to religious wars than anything else I believe. It tells the greatest story ever told. The Bible and Jesus' crucifixion will live on til the end of all time. I saw a lot of paintings of the crucifix in this museum and wanted to pick one of these as my religious expressions and I liked this line the most. We are so fortunate that we can zoom in and see all the little details that may be quite difficult to see with just the naked eye.

I believe that the purpose or aim of Frida Kahlo was to create a cycle of pain and rebirth. I find this artwork to be very beautiful because it teaches us a lot about who she was but also about us. Frida Kahlo was not ashamed to pain her tuff eyebrows and facial hair. Which is why I admire this artwork she embraced it. I also really like the traditional hair style it just reminds me of the beauty of being Mexican. Another message I get from this paining is that beauty can be painful. I mean her necklace is made of thorns that bury themselves into her skin. I love how it looks on the inside of the building this glass is in because its like your own personal rainbow kind of thing when the sun is hitting it.
Stained glass reminds me of church and church to me brings good memories because my mom would take us and then we would go eat aterwards and it just brings back good things.

I find this artwork beautiful because the choice of color. It makes me feel hopeful like there is more to life than what we are currently seeing or living. I chose this one because I am personally drawn to flowers and organic settings. I find paintings with flowers and bright colors in my personal taste. I think this painting is simple enough to create many stories in my mind. I dream they are freshly cut from a home garden gently arranged and watered. Or perhaps these were picked up at a farmers market on the way home by the painters partner.

I think it does a good job of capturing the majesty of these creatures and demonstrating the beauty that can be found in nature and ideally, prompting action for conservation efforts in a way that people are willing to accept minor sacrifices if it means that creatures such as this can continue to exist on earth. I really enjoy the color effects that the photographer was able to achieve with doing this at night, as well as the diffraction that occurs due to underwater photography. It really has a cooling calm effect when I look at it.
This speaks to me on a personal level. I feel most comfortable when I am in the water and at night, so to me, the setting is incredibly peaceful to me. I also find these creatures to be magnificent at all sizes, but I(like many others) have a bit of a soft spot for baby animals. It's a reminder that not all monsters of the dark and deep are actually monsters and that there is actually very little to fear.

I dont know if the color turned that way or the artist chose it but it brings it togethor to make a really nice earthy tone. the art above it and below it make the peice symetrical and nice on the eyes. I chose this one becuase it can be something simple i can have in my house and it wouldnt birng too much attention to itself but if i wanted to look at it and i mean really look at it i can find some real beauty in it.

The shirt the woman is wearing is tradition attire from Mexico. The basket on her head is more than likely hand painted from a local artist. Black and white photography has always been very appealing to me. I believe it's because it makes everything stand out more. For instance the woman shirt has different patterns in the neck area and arms. If you pay attention to her face she has dark under eyes. I chose this image because it remind me of my roots and family.

This digital artwork combines multiple astronomical features into a single image and to me, prompts a bit of yearning for a different life where I would be given an opportunity to see such sights in first hand. To watch a sun rise on a different planet and the absolute freedom of leaving earth and it's petty troubles behind.
This particular piece stood out to me due to the array of colors presented and the crispness that is prevalent in photography and digital art. As previously stated, this artwork elicits a sense of freedom and wonder that is beyond what my present life is, so amongst it's competitors, this one spoke to me the most.

He painted this painting after he had his house for the first time, and he had immediately and enthusiastically set about decorating, painting a suite of canvases to fill the walls. He spent two and a half days in bed and was then inspired to create a painting of his bedroom. This painting catched my eyes because everyone needs their own privacy and their room could be a very special place. Although the picture symbolized relaxation and peace to the artist, to our eyes the canvas seems to teem with nervous energy, instability, and turmoil, an effect heightened by the sharply receding perspective.

Without the substance and effort people will still take a second glance just because its shiny, Unlike the walking beauty where people today would even think twice about it. Its a comment on todays way of thinking on how looks are everything.

This artwork is an example of what many of my generation are frustrated about. The moneyed interests in our country are often seen to be trampling over our collective self image as a nation. Citizens of every country feel the need to see themselves as the good guys, but it can be difficult to maintain that image when you realize that there are those who are often outside the laws that the rest of us have to live by. I remember growing up and saying the Pledge of Allegiance in school. I believed then that America was the greatest nation on earth where we held up a beacon of freedom for the rest of the world to follow. Those are the foundations that I believed the country was founded on, where there was such a thing as "Liberty and Justice for all."
But then I grew up and could see the concessions and laws that are made by the wealthy to maintain the status quo and make it near impossible for people to actually achieve that "American Dream." Money controls the nation and the power that it brings allows for influential enough businesses to literally start wars in other countries, in my name as an American citizen. They are able to use that power to trample on everything that I stand for, and those ideals that the flag is supposed to represent is being ground into the dirt by people whose only goal in life is to make 1 more dollar.

It's beautiful in my eyes because it captures a plant that is still in the beginning parts of its life, despite the artist himself being at one of the lowest points in his life. I chose this artwork because it was taken with a polaroid, and the iconic white brim caught my eye really quick. Polaroids always give off a vintage feel and I really admire that.

Something that could be so easily blown over by wind has been captured in a state of peace. It's like you're hanging on by a thread; at any moment, the wind could pick up and blow it all down, and then the bird and it's lil babies have lost their home. It gives off feelings of fragility and sensitivity, and that nothing is forever. It reminds me that I should make solid foundations for myself so I'm able to succeed in life. If you told me this was a picture, I'd totally believe you. There's something so sad about the flowers that died and fell from the bunch, but they still maintain their beauty. I think flowers are taken for granted. They're such a beautiful thing we have in this world, and they deserve appreciation. Especially when people study them so closely and turn them into such beautiful paintings like this one.

Vincent Van Gogh
Sunflowers
1888
Oil on canvas
Personal: The reason for this choosing of this art piece is because I enjoy the art pieces of Vincent van Gogh, since I did choose a different one, it shows how interesting his art pieces are to me. I admire sunflowers and then to add the artist which makes it more admiring since his art pieces are oil method.

To me it expresses an eastern style beauty. Of fair times gone by. Noble ladies enjoying the day. Details of flower wreaths and fans, a lace tablecloth covering a side table that has a vase with flowers, distinctly feminine elements. The flowing robes remind me of a sculpture. The linear patterns are curved. White yellow and gold, black background. they are in the foreground center. The figurative placement is balanced.

This is Picasso's protest against the horrors of the german regime against the citizens of Guernica in the basque country. It is a modern image made against modern warfare.

Janet Fish "Morning" 1978 Oil on canvas

Fish Fish Fish! I love Janet Fishes paintings. The first time I saw Janet's paintings was in the old MOMA SF. It was a realism exhibition. It had Chuck Close and of course Janet who labels herself as a perceptual realist. I was taken with her large works and the observational skill and the color mixing skill are exacting. I watched the Youtube video online her dc moore retrospective and I just realized that you observe 2 paintings with each one. One is the image you view from far away, and then one is the up close which reveals the lines of color, which could almost be considered abstract according to their view.
