I chose Captain Meriwether Lewis to be the captain of my expedition. I would bring him as my captain because he was in the U.S. Army in 1794, and served six years in the Frontier Army . Lewis was born in Albemarle County, Virginia, on August 18, 1774. He was the second child in his family, but the first son. His parents were William and Lucy Meriwether. I think that he would be a great captain for the Corps of Discovery because he used to be in the army, and he will know how to keep order and people would respect him.
Also, I think that he would be a good captain for the Corps of Discovery because he was very fit, and he was also loyal, disciplined, and flexible. These are all good characteristics to have because they are all needed to survive when on an expedition. Lastly, I think that Meriwether Lewis would be a good member of the corps of discovery because of the fact that he has already been trained to do this kind of stuff, and because if we were to go into a crisis, then there is no doubt in my mind that he wouldn't know what to do.

I chose George Shannon to be a private in the Corps of discovery. I chose to bring him with me because he would be one of the people “which are to Constitute the Permanent Detachment.” George Shannon was born in Pennsylvania in the year of 1787. He was born into an Irish-Protestant ancestry. One of his relatives was Governor Shannon who was the governor of Kentucky.

I chose him to go on this expedition as a member of the corps of discovery because he is young and able to explore and discover. I also chose to bring him because he was physically fit, and very smart. He was chosen to go on the expedition also because he knows how to take and follow orders from others around him. Lastly, he was chosen to go on the expedition as a member of the corps of discovery because of the fact that he was loyal, and would not abandon his group and members.

I chose Sacagawea as my non Military person to go on the expedition. I chose Sacagawea to be part of the corpse of Discovery because of the experiences that she has had in her life. Sacagawea was kidnapped by a war-party in 1800 when she was about 12 years old. I also chose Sacagawea to be part of the corpse of Discovery because she had gone through a lot and anyone who accepted her to be part of their team should be loyal too. She also had connections with the tribe that she belonged to before she got kidnapped, so she could help us get resources if we needed them.

Although Sacagawea was young, she had a lot of knowledge and she was even a young mother when she was on the expedition. Yes, she was the only woman on the expedition, but she was very good at interpreting between Native American tribes and the corpse of discovery. If the corpse of Discovery needed to communicate something with the Native American tribe, Sacagawea would translate for them because they didn't know how to speak their language. Sacagawea's husband, Charbonneau was hired as an interpreter but he wasn't very good at it, so Sacagawea took over and became their interpreter .

The White Philadelphus lewisii

The White Philadelphus lewisii is a shrub that grows fast in up to 6 feet in height. The flowers on this plant are 2 inches in width and they have a wonderful smell in the months of May through July. I think that the members of the corps of discovery would have liked the smell of this plant, but they probably would have liked other plants better because of the fact that this one does not make food. While having fragrant flowers might be a benefit to some, this plant might not be beneficial to these members because of the fact that it can not be used for making food. The other benefit of this plant is that it can live in harsh conditions, like in full sun to part shade, it is garden tolerant, drought tolerant, and very showy when it has flowers on it. This plant can survive in very dry areas with a little bit of added watering that helps the plant to produce more flowers.

The Prairie Dog

The Prairie Dog is considered a Keystone species, meaning that most of the things that it does benefits other species. Prairie dogs are also a food source for many animals including coyotes, eagles, badgers and black-footed ferrets. I think that the members of the corps of discovery would like this animal because it could be used as a food source for them. Also, I think that this animal would be beneficial to them because of the fact that it benefits other species, which would help to give more food sources to the humans. The prairie dog colonies were once found across the Great Plains from southern Canada to northern Mexico. Prairie dogs are social animals that live in complex tunnels with multiple openings. Although a useful species, I think that the humans might not like them all that well because of the fact that their population is decreasing, and they may go extinct sometime in the future.

This plant grows from 12 to 20 inches in height, and can be used for beds and borders, wildflower mixtures, and the xeriscape garden. This plant was discovered by William Clark when he was on the Lewis and Clark expedition. I think that the members of the corps of discovery would have liked this plant because of its various uses. I think that they would have liked that it was beneficial to them if they needed to make certain things. The only downside to this plant is the fact that it could not be used for food.

The Black tailed deer can live in the temperate forests along the Pacific coast. These forests that they live in are basically cool temperatures with lots of rain, but an overall mild climate. The black tailed deer was first discovered on the Lewis and Clark expedition. Black tailed deer do not migrate because of seasonal changes, instead they typically spend their lives in the same places. I think that the members of the corps of discovery would have liked this animal because of the fact that it could have been a food source for them, and they could have used the deer hide for other purposes. I don’t think that they would have not liked this animal, because they could have used pretty much every part of it.

The Teton Sioux native american tribe slept in tepees, hunted buffalo and guarded their territory fiercely against anyone who passed through. This tribe lived in two villages near what is today Pierre, South Dakota.. One of the villages was located on the Missouri River. The other village was located off of a bad river. There was no kind of relationship between the Teton Sioux and Lewis and Clark. At the first meeting that the leaders of the Teton tribe had with Lewis and Clark, they went through their practiced ritual for meeting Indians, parading in uniform and demonstrating an air gun. At this meeting, Lewis, Clark, and the rest of the members of the corps of discovery were trying to impress the Teton tribe.

Not one member of the Corps of Discovery spoke Sioux, and the communication between the two groups effectively played a significant part in several misunderstandings between the two groups. There were many arguments between the corps of discovery and the Tetons and eventually this turned into a bigger conflict. After many arguments stemming from miscommunication, they started to escalate to fighting. The meetings that took place between the Tetons and the corps of discovery happened for a period of three days.

The absolute location of the St. Charles Historic District is 38.77 N , 90.48 W. The St.Charles Historic District is 0.1 of a mile west of the Missouri River, and is located in Missouri, East of St. Peters, Missouri. Located on the eastern edge of the Great Plains , much of Missouri is a prairie land divided up by rivers and streams. In the west, south of the Missouri River, the Osage Plains stretch to its border with Kansas; it's a mixed tall grass prairie land with scattered woodlands. Over the years, there have been many people working to preserve this place, and today it is a National Historic District. The main forms of transportation in Missouri are: car, bus, plane, and biking. Missouri is in the Midwest.
