I love my students and a personal interest in them is how I maintain order and interest. I simply could not imagine not engaging with them in that way. I get that some teachers aren't open to their students in that way so...I'm just kind of shocked because that is so different from how I run my classroom...even outside of virtual instruction. They need to know that we are human. This module dint teach me anything new other than to keep more precise and detailed communication records during remote learning.

RAE COLE (not sure why it came up anonymous)

For journalism, it is imperative that students are able to collaborate and I have been looking for a way that they can collaborate virtually. I pray that we have time to create and incorporate many of the things that we learned.

One of the important aspects of this job is building a relationship with the students. I believe that it helps enormously with the teaching. Between the student engagement and the classroom management, not to mention general trust, having a relationship with the students will help me to actually do what I am here to do. To that end Mod. 1 made sense. It wasn't new information exactly, but the delivery was a nice refresher. Can't hear a good thing too many times (mostly).

Module 2 was interesting because of the tips on organization and navigation. I think the better organized my online environment is, the more success I'm going to have right off the bat.

-Joe Thompson

There was a lot of information to take in as we consider how to engage our students in the virtual environment. I appreciated the participant's guides and resources as I began to explore how I will incorporate some of the strategies in my planning. One on the most important take-aways for me is to remember to be clear, concise and consistent.

The modules discussed best practices when communicating with students and families. It fell in line with Westlake's way of communicating through weekly emails and providing timely feedback during synchronous lessons. Establishing classroom culture in an online setting is going to be a new frontier for me. I will try to incorporate some of the strategies, such as norm setting as a class, with the upper classmen and see how that goes. Synchronous instruction is what we rely heavily on for day to day lessons. I can see where asynchronous instruction can be used to prime students for a difficult lesson in synchronous instruction, as and extension for students who are ready to move on, or as a homework assignment for simple concepts that can be easily mastered by the majority of the students with minimal intervention from the teacher.
Gladden

The modules were not working, but for the ones I managed to watch - I felt they were kind of common sense and slightly not useful. The first module even had the youtube video play twice during the presentation; which tells me the presenter left her computer and came back and thought the video was still playing from where she left off. I am excited to get the school year started but these training have been useless in my opinion.

Wellllllllllll...I was frustrated most of the day trying to open the modules and participation guides. Now I know what our students experience when they have to complete tasks and our links do not work or the internet is too slow. At least I was able to channel my energy into my classroom. So maybe we should all have back up lessons or asynchronous tasks for students to complete just in case whatever they need to accomplish will still be completed.

The some modules were helpful, but the trainings would have bode well, if there was a minimum required to show proof of completion today, with the teacher having the ability to choose what is best for their particular needs moving forward. I think that approach would have been most advantageous for deep-dives. The modules on synchronous lesson and TEAMS were most purposeful for me.

Overall, the process that I went through as I worked through figuring out the system in which the modules were presented on top of the fact that there were many modules to go through (including the additional pre-requisite modules I had to go through as a new teacher) was an extensive, but worthwhile process. As a new teacher at Westlake, as well as a completely new teacher, starting this year virtually has been intimidating, but the modules, despite the technical difficulties, were very informative for me. I have no prior experience teaching on my own, let alone in a virtual setting, but the different apps, websites, teaching strategies, and advice/training provided through the modules gave ma a clearer idea of how I should be able to successfully approach this school year.

It was difficult for me to complete the modules since I kept getting errors causing the modules to not open. I will try again another day. Instead, I used my time to work on my Microsoft Educator Training. I have completed 7 learning paths, accumulated over 22K points and I am on my way to being a Microsoft Innovative Educator (MIE) Trainer.

Dr Barber

Trying to get the Modules to open was a bit frustrating and discouraging. I did complete two yesterday and planned to do more at home. Welp, I left my computer on the charger at school. Intention was good, but my execution was horrible. Started again fresh this morning and was able to complete another Module.

On a more positive note, the information that I am learning in the Models are very informative. Especially Module 3.

The professional development I attended was really insightful. Many options were provided for keeping students engaged. HOWEVER, the software products do not align with what I have access to (AutoCAD) OR the software still has many bugs that CREATE problems during instruction (GMetrix).
I appreciate my administration for equipping teachers for virtual instruction. THANK YOU! I would love to use cutting-edge software platforms during instruction, however, I find that the best instructional options are those informed by the teachers.

Yesterday was information overload and frustrating at some points. The modules were not loading or not giving you credit for completing them. I do appreciate that the district is I trying to better prepare us for remoter learning this time around but there is so much to do in so little time. I want to be prepared for my students on Monday but this has been exhausting.

Like many others, I faced some technical difficulties with the modules. I will continue working on those today and tomorrow. I got a lot done on the BAC with my PLC so that was very productive. I also watched some youtube videos over microsoft teams to keep expanding my knowledge. Productive day overall. Thanks!

I will say that I really love TEAMS. These sessions showed me new things about TEAMS that I would not have found out on my own. I will definitely be using it faithfully even when we get back into the classroom. It makes life easier in my opinion and saves on time.

The unfortunate part about all of this, is that there is sooooooooo much thrown at us and I don't feel that we are given the time to digest it all. Great info, however, a lot of this stuff is going to need practice, reviewing and repetition because IT IS A LOT!

The district PD's were beneficial to provide me with some thinking points as I continue to develop a plan for URL. Was a bit overloaded and frustrated using frontline as it wasnt registering the work I was completing.
