"“In the tranquil landscape, and especially in the distant line of horizon, man beholds somewhat as beautiful as his own nature” (Emerson, Nature 1836). Emerson's statement highlights his view on the North American wilderness and how it shares deep connections to one's individual well being. Emerson's first remarks of the landscape tie in to the transcendental value of celebrating nature for what it is. Furthermore Emerson's remarks of the beauty of human nature tie into how there can be a greater spiritual-well being in humanity. All of this is mentioned in Ralph Waldo Emerson's Nature Essay.

Henry David Thoreau

Henry David Thoreau best believes in his writing that one's spiritual well being is more important than a financial and social well being making him the best example to describe the tenet of having spiritual enlightenment. In Walden, Thoreau states how he can feel better without services like the post office, “I could easily do without the post-office. I think that there are very few communications made through it”, (Thoreau 375). Thoreau at the time believed the post office was not worth any time or monetary value to him due to the fact he barely used it. Thoreau believed the post office wasn't a necessary asset to your well being to move on. Additionally stated in Walden he described his general purpose for going off into the woods, “I went into the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it did teach, and not when I came here to die, discover that I had not lived”, (Thoreau 374). Thoreau made a sacrifice to leave everything his time had to offer to him, in order to journey into the woods for knowledge. The knowledge he wanted to seek was his own definition of life and how he will live a life he is satisfied with, without the influence of others.

Without having the influence of others he sacrificed his social well- being thus gaining a sense of individualism in himself. All in all making Thoreau a good example of incorporating transcendental values of gaining spiritual needs rather than financial ones.

Winter Survival

The art interprets transcendental values of close relationships to nature and self-reliance. The close relationships to nature are seen with the lone homestead in the distance surrounded with nothing than what the landscape has to offer to the people who live there. The people who possibly live there have to rely on themselves to get their own food, resources, water, and heat thus only relying on their assets being the wood, cattle, and mule in the painting seen here. The visuals set the scene that the environment has changed to a transitional stage between fall and winter as seen with the tree adjacent to the pine showing evidence of the fall leaves that were once on the tree that was probably cut down for wood.I started to have mixed feelings with myself over the painting as i'm not big fan of transitioning into winter but came to realize how this world could progress through such a stasis.

First of all the song mentioned quotes from Charlie Chaplin's The Great Dictator (1940). I found this interesting since the lines used in a way were strengthening the message in the goodness in people how everyone in their individual might has the power to create the things they desire making human nature better.

Lyrics that I found

for the thirst and for the hunger

 leave your broken windows open

and in the light just streams

and you get a head, a head full of dreams

The songs emphasizes how you should keep an open mind to achieve enlightenment to your soul full of many ambitions.
