Gail Halvorsen had come with his plane and from the air, he will drop all of his parachutes. Even though he does drop lots of candy bombs we still have to be fast if you want some because there are lots of other people. There is also a scary part about this because Gail Halvorsen had decided he should stop making drops. He was the only one making me happy again because he would bring treats. What would I do without that happiness? The good part is that the colonel had convinced him to keep making drops. He also told him to keep him informed on what was happening. Gail Halvorsen is a very kind person because he does this but he also goes to hospitals to give the children candy. He teaches them how to chew gum and sees how happy they are to see all of it. Gail Halvorsen also cares for is because he was scared that the crowds were getting bigger and bigger and kids would get hurt trying to get parachutes. As I was walking I had noticed newspaper. This newspaper was not any normal newspaper it had a section on Gail Halvorsen. Then I found out that us children were not the only one who appreciate Gail Halvorsen but other did too. The newspaper talked about what Gail Halvorsen has done, why he is doing the candy bomber. A man that who would make sure that the children in Berlin were happy and would stay happy. I know he wants us to be happy because he would not do this for us if he did not care. He would come to Berlin and every time he came he would bring us more candy and gum. He cared for us and made sure that we were safe while he was doing this. And because of that not only do we appreciate what he is doing but so do lots of others people. He takes time out of his day to do this for us. My name is Mercedes Simson and I am a girl that was alive during World War II. I had to watch it all everything that happened, and the during this time I lived in Berlin, Germany. I had seen my own family and friends die because of the war. I had to go through being hungry every day not having enough food. I would wait day and night and hope that the Western Allies would come to save us. Then, that day finally came and I was happy  until I found out that the Soviets had cut off our supplies. I didn't know what to do I didn't know what was going to happen to us. That is when the Western Allies decided to send us supplies by bringing it in through their planes. There was also one special person out of all of the soldiers that delivers our supplies, Gail Halvorsen. He would come to Berlin and give us candy through the air and every day I would wait wondering if Gail Halvorsen would come with his parachutes. There would be white cloth that he would tie a string to and then there was candy on it.  I will always remember that because it is the kindest thing anyone has done for me in a long time. It shows that he cares for us even though he does not know us.
