For this project, I set myself as an amateur photographer to let my models simply be. I wanted the most honest and truthful outcomes from my photographs, with true stories behind them.  For me to improve this image I would go back and edit it again, and select different areas of the image to edit individually instead of using 'Levels' over the whole image as I believe there is a strong contrasting difference between the areas of light and dark with this photo. ]]> 2017-05-15 22:05:57 UTC https://padlet.com/meganlwilson_/personalproject/wish/171962303 meganlwilson_ https://padlet.com/meganlwilson_/personalproject/wish/171962509 I love this shot I got of Daniel, for me it perfectly represents youth and immaturity. The pose Daniel gives here is sort of like 'Whatever' , this eye-roll is common with teenagers as they begin to rebel as they grow their own independence.  I will use this photograph in my final images as it really does connect to my theme of raw, honest teenage-hood. Another thing I deeply admire about this image is it's right in your face, and the 'smart sharpen' tool I used while I selected the the centre of the image and Daniels eyes, to show more detail, you can see almost every strand of hair on his eyebrows and every red vein in his eyes. However, in this actual image, I love the actual pose of Daniel, as it's so honest and truthful. The look on his face is quite hopeful, which I think is how he feels inside. He had a hard time as a teenager, but his life in general now is so much better, he works full time and is surrounded by a family who loves and accepts him for exactly who he is and he is planning on moving out into his own home soon and plans to travel the world. It's hard to say from my perspective if what happened to him in his teenage years still has an impact on him, I personally think it does, but as everyday goes by he flourishes more into a confident, young man. I tried lightening it in Photoshop but it created too much grain. Daniels eyes meet the camera here, and even in the look he gives to the camera you can already see his soul opening up to you, this photograph is so inviting to the viewer and automatically connects both the viewer to Daniel through the image. For this photograph in particular I don't think it works, and I think it almost looks like cheap make-up. Firstly, we sat in my back garden while I spoke to Charlotte about her teenage years. We then went inside to experiment with different lighting, I used my Pink Neon Flamingo Light again for this shoot, but decided to actually include it into the images, unlike my photoshoot with Daniel. Unlike other shoots with Charlotte where I try to get her to do a specific pose, I told her that all I wanted out of these images was for Charlotte to have a confident, relaxed connection to me and the camera, and to not feel intimidated by what the photo's will look like. Charlotte suffered from getting spots as a teenager, and these have left scars on her face. Charlotte is still 19 so she is still a teenager, and does sometimes suffer from spots. At first my idea to bring forward her blemishes into a positive light concerned Charlotte, and she felt uncomfortable incase my viewers judged her for her skin. I took this into consideration while I was editing my photographs and in some images I completely blurred out all spots/flaws, but then I spoke to Charlotte again about it and she agreed that she was happy about showing her spots as she loved the photograph's anyways. For this photograph Charlotte talked to me about the lonliness she felt as a teenager, surrounded by friends who were 'normal' Charlotte always felt a bit estranged from everyone else. Charlottes mum was quite strict with letting Charlotte go out with her friends, especially when all her friends began drinking and they would go out camping/drinking and Charlotte wouldn't be allowed to attend. She started working at 16 and dropped out of school at 17, she now works full time at only 19 and plans to get back into education but unfortunately feels too shy and uncomfortable to go back into education. At school Charlotte was very into art and always had a huge talent/passion for painting. At 17 I remember Charlotte listening to Radiohead, painting images of tree's with beckoning roots and smoking instead of going to lessons. It's hard to say how Charlottes teenage years have shaped who she is today because she is still a teenager, however her maturity and confidence grow everytime I have a photoshoot with her, which she now really enjoys after this photoshoot. For this shoot I took these photograph's at his house and mostly within his bedroom. To get the bright vivid lights, me and Ryan persevered with what we had at his house, to create the blue light that appears on his face, we used a fluorescent tooth whitening product and simply shined it on Ryan's face. This photograph was my favourite out of the whole photo shoot, as Ryan is naturally very bubbly and humorous, I found a lot of the photographs he was laughing. Ryan is no longer a teenager so what we talked about was his journey as a teenager to the person he is today, and Ryan had a lot to say. We started with the most obvious change he experienced in his life when he was a teenager, when he came out as gay. Ryan tells me he'd always known, but had been confused as a child being expected to 'have a girlfriend' or 'like a girl' at school.
