CIPA requires schools and libraries to set up filters, on any computers that are accessed by minors, to protect children from obscene pictures, child pornography, or any thing that is harmful to minors. Schools are also to set up a policy that provides for the education of children on appropriate online behavior, including use of chat rooms, social media, or any online communication, as well as  cyber bullying awareness. It is designed to protect children's privacy and safety as they use and work with the technology in their classrooms.

We as teachers need to teach our students about the internet, how to use it as a tool and how to be safe while using it. This project enabled us to learn how we could teach our students about the safety of the internet. We were able to learn about the laws in place, such as CIPA, so that I am able to teach the law to my students. Just as students learn the rules of society they must also learn the rules of the internet. I was also able to learn some rules of netiquette, such as the word it self. When first going into this project I did not know what netiquette was, or what it meant. Now that I know what netiquette is I can teach to my students. Just like the need to learn to be polite in society, they must also learn to be polite on the internet. After allowing the class to analyze the case you can either hold a class debate or have a mock trial in class. Prior to my research I never considered the importance of internet law and its violations however now that I am aware of the consequences I am more skeptical about that I write and what I post.
