Social action is viewed as a technique for achieving changes by giving information. Social action infers rolling out enormous improvement to the things that aren't right in our general public and showing new contemplations for enhancing later on.

The social action project was about young people and how affective drink driving can be. In the social action piece, it was portraying the story of Mellissa who went out with her friend and got too drunk. They couldn’t get a hold of a local taxi so they decided to just to drive home. On the way home, Mellissa (who is driving) took a wrong turn and began to go the long way home and her friend began shouting at her. She lost focus rapidly which resulted in the car crashing and leaving her best friend dead.

They are a lot of strengths in this social action project with one of them coming in the start. It starts off with a black background and factual intertile which hooks the audience in immediately with statistics that’s being used. The effects it has on the audience that it lets the audience know statistics which gives the audience knowledge of the chain of events and that it needs to reduced and talked about. It uses no music bed at the beginning but you can hear police/doctors speaking. Whilst the intro finishes you hear flat line sounding Which leads the audience to believe that someone has died? When the intro is done it then proceeds to Mellissa’s Story and you can see that the talking head and talking space is being used. This is another strength because the camera angles that has been used at point is a close up and then it cuts to another strength which is the Reconstruction. The camera angle used in the reconstruction is a wide shot so that you can see the vehicle come into shot and also park in the car park. The cut away were all in sync with the narration. Another strength is the fly on the wall technique which the audience feel like they are in the car. The movement of the camera moving to the speed of the car and shaking gives it a sense of realism. It also uses Archive footage at the beginning and also at the end.

Another weakness could be the structuring of the camera where she is having an interview and the camera is a bit jerky. Another weakness would be its variation.

They are minimal strengths in this social action project. One of the strengths in the piece is when the presenter gets in the shot and speaks it shows ‘Talking Head and talking space’. Another strength is that is included archived footage to represent the success of the club over the years, but it is also a weakness because it uses to much archived footage that it becomes the majority of the video and the interest of the audience begins to go because it lacks in continuity. Another weakness in the social action project is that the cuts are very harsh and in some of the cuts it doesn’t relate to the previous scene. For example, in the beginning of the piece it shows the club winning and the winning goal being shown and then it cuts to the community project.

He had a lack of intertile which made difficult it understand the progress that Manchester City has made since the Abu Dhabi take over. The cuts made it to difficult to stay interested as it was very harsh. The social action project included to many archived video so it took away the originality of the video. The interviews that were involved were very lacklustre and it was difficult to watch.

This documentary has so many strengths and minimal weaknesses. From the start the techniques are already being used (Talking head and talking space). It shows an intertile of the location whilst viewing the country. It then introduces Ross Kemp and you can then see the talking head and talking space technique being used. In some of the scenes the camera is very jerky but that shoes the realism of the documentary and makes the audience feel as if they are on the journey with Ross Kemp. Another strength used in the documentary is the use of the 'fly off the wall' technique'. This keeps the audience very interested and keeps them watching. The use of the camera's night vision makes it look so realistic. The interviews that were conducted in the show was so realistic because it would cut to the way they were living. For example, when they were talking about the tribes and where they are based the camera cuts to a maps which shows the locations of where the tribes are based.

The Amanda Knox story is a real life story about a exonerated American girl who was wrongfully jailed for up to 4 years for a crime she says she hadn't committed. The beginning of the documentary is unique because it begins with a Intertile of a date. The intertile is interesting because it draws the audience attention in by making them think what happened on that specific date. It is then followed by a establishing shot which allows the audience to know the location and the camera movement used is called 'dolly' which the camera is moving towards the object.

This Archived audio call has a massive impact on the audience because already you know that something is bad had happened and that it is only going to get worse.

When the Establishing shot cuts you then see Archived footage of a house and you begin to see camera movements such as the zooming in on broken glass, broken doors and blood stains. At this point the audience's attention is on what had happened and why has this happened. The realism in the Archived footage plays a massive role as it keeps the audience interested with the events that is ongoing. Now the mise-en-scene during the Archived footage lets the audience get a insight on what has happened and begins the theory of had someone been murdered, burgled or sexually assaulted. During the archived footage the audience find find out that a woman had been in danger because of the zooming in on women clothing such as her underwear, shorts and her brassiere. The connotations used gives the audience the idea that a murder had taken place as you can see red. Red could symbolise for death, danger and blood etc.

During the Archived Footage you hear a voice over and that leads the audience to believe that the narrator is involved with a murder. As the narrator is speaking it cut to the narrator speaking. This technique that was used is called B-roll, that means the additional recording caught to improve the story you're advising and to have more prominent adaptability when altering. Rather than highlighting just talking heads on video, you need to have different pictures you can remove to that will add measurement to your story. In the next scene you see Amanda Knox speaking and the reason we know that the person speaking is Amanda Knox is because a Intertile pops up with the name. The technique used Amanda Knox's Introduction is called Talking head. Amanda Knox's demeanour shows that she is already innocent and the reason for this is the mise-en-scene and the Lighting. She isn't wearing make-up which could suggest that she is very natural person and put her in a light of some one who couldn't do wrong or commit such a heinous crime

After the opening credits you see Amanda Knox driving. The camera is filming her from the side and gives off the sense of normality. The scene tends to play with the audience thoughts because it is showing the life of a suspected murderer and how normal everyday life is for her. As she pulls up to her home, it is a Wide shot of her house. In the wide shot you see how her house is from the outside. Her home is portrayed as she wants to be hidden or not noticed by anyone and the low key lighting does just that. This social Action Documentary is very impactful from the beginning because of its beginning because of its enigma it creates. For example, the enigmas that exist such as, who is innocent and who we do we trust, why the police only concentrated on one couple and no one else and finally who is responsible for the murder of the young student.

Instead of a establishing shot telling the audience where she is, it shows a intertile of the year and the location. Intertile a word or group of words (such as dialogue in a silent movie or information about a setting) that appear on-screen during a movie but are not part of a scene.

Overallmg Amanda Knox documentary is very interesting and impactful. The impact it has on the audience is beyond normal because the documentary has the tenacity to divide the opinion of an audience whether they believe Amanda Knox is innocent or they believe she is guilty and that there is no in-between. The Camera Techniques used to tell the stories with most coming from Archived Footage to paint a picture of how Amanda Knox's personality and demeanour was before the murder which toyed with the audiences minds in which leads them to believe that she is innocent.

Ross Kemps: Papau New Guinea

This Documentary is impactful but only on certain representations. Ross Kemps Demeanour plays a massive role in the documentary because he is known in the nation for being a 'Hard-man' so when seeing him in danger, to the audience it is seen as entertainment because we expect him to act in the way he always has. This Social action didn't raise any awareness or resolve any issue; all it done was show Papau New Guinea in a negative way which would gains Ross Kemp more viewers and make his documentary more entertaining. It does create enigmas such as, why is their over 80 languages spoken and also why in the time of the world moving forward (technology etc.) why are they going in the opposite direction.
