1.) We think Anne lives on through her diary because you are able to see her life and her personality through her writing.
2.) Leia: The passage that I chose was paragraph 12 , "...but one must be prepared to make some sacrafices for a good cause,..."(Frank para.12) This is important because it represents the whole theme of the story, which is having to make sacrafices in order to stay safe in hiding.
Aubree: The passage I chose was page 214 paragraph 5 lines 5-end. I found this section important because it tells you what the Jews were and were not allowed to do. It shows you what they had to go through which I think is the main reason for Anne's diary's success.
3.) This excerpt helps us remember the past by giving us a first-person account of the events that took place in this time period, it makes it relatable/personal because you know how the person suffered.

The sentence also had a natural flow rather than stiff formality.
"... There is a saying that 'paper is more patient than man';..." (Frank para. 1) This example is formal because it is not in a conversational format and uses no words that indicate herself or her feelings/thoughts.

1.) The young boy the author spoke of in paragraphs 4-7 is symbolic of all those who were brutally killed in the Holocaust. Wiesel may have decided to convey his point through symbolism because the thought of others depending on him to carry on their legacy and make something of their lost lives would grasp the audiences attention and their emotions and make the overall message more meaningful.

2.)Leia: The passage that I found important from the text was here, "There is so much to be done. One person-a Raoul Wallenberg, an Albert Schweitzer, one person of integrity-can make a difference, a difference of life and death."(Wiesel para.12) I chose this from the passage because it shows that anyone can make a difference and all it takes is integrity.

Purpose #1: One point of view that Wiesel expresses is that the award he recieves does not just belong to him but to all the people who have suffered and died during the war. " It pleases me because I may say that this honor belongs to all the survivors and their children, and through us , to the Jewish people with whose destiny I have always identified."(Wiesel para.3)
Purpose #2: Another point of view that Wiesel expresses is that it only takes one person to make a difference in the world. "One person- a Raoul Wallenburg..."
1a) He means that if everyone forgets the ones that died during the war then we are as guilty as the people who killed them.
1b) This shows that he is a very caring and considerate person.
2.)Wiesel's perpsective on the idividual's responsibility to end human suffering is that just one person can do it. Here he says, "One person- a Raoul Wallenburg, an Albert Schweitzer, one person of integrity-can make a difference, a difference of life and death.(Wiesel para.12)
3a) In paragraphs 9-11 Wiesel acknowledges different viewpoints on political conflicts by saying that he is sensitive to other conflicts and, " ...there are the Palestinians to whose plight I am sensitive but whose method I deplore." (Wiesel para. 10)
3b) Wiesel has a unique way of viewing things and to differentiate his viewpoint from others he emphasizes his Jewish heritage and beliefs which were the main cause of him being a victim of the Holocaust. Since he has experienced such a traumatic experience his words and views on stopping persecution are much more powerful.

1.) On the panels which include Miloch and his family he is living in a bunker beneath a large garbage bin, this is where they are hiding. The images help demonstrate this better than a written version would because in the illustration it shows where the bin was and what it looked like.
2.) Aubree- the panel I chose was panel 14 because a friend says says," Don't do it Mr. Spielgelman- it's just not safe! You don't know anything about these smugglers." and then his wife telling him," Snf. It's like talking to a wall." I think that this is important because it shows how badly he wanted freedom and how stubborn he was despite his wife's strong protests.
Leia-The panel that I found important was panel 52 which said, "We knew the stories- that they will gas us and throw us in the ovens.
3.) This graphic novel has taught us that we don't remember the past just through literature/diaries but we can remember history through really anything including this example which is art/drawings.
