Gogh's Starry Night was painted when he was in Sen lemi's nursing home after the incident of cutting his ears after arguing with his friend Gauguin. This is a painting of the night sky overlooking from the window of a nursing home, but it is actually a work produced by reviving memories. What is shown in the picture is the appearance of Saint Remy cast depressed under the swirling starlight. However, it is quite different from the actual image of Saint Remy, but Gogh's world of work that appears here is far from the Impressionist ideology of representing the real world as it is. The solitude and depression felt in the landscape of this painting clearly show Gogh's inner world, who lost his friend Gauguin, and the discord of the painter's communal system.

Van Gogh is said to have enjoyed working during the night since he painted this work, which contains the night view of an outdoor cafe located in the Place du Forum in Arles. Not long ago, he completed "The Night Cafe in Arles," which expresses the indoor scenery of his favorite cafe de la Gare over the night of the three days.Rather than reproducing the same thing in front of his eyes, he used colors according to subjectivity to strongly express his feelings. In the case of this work, the night view is expressed without using any black color, and the shade of the cafe is colored in yellow, which is close to lemon color. In addition, the golden lights spreading from the gas lamps on the terrace color people and their surroundings yellow like protective walls, and the facade of the cafe along the brick floor reflects the light of the gas lamps with blue light. This intense contrast between dark blue and bright yellow gives a glimpse into his philosophy of considering the subjective emotions felt in the physical world the most important.

When 1888.12.23, Vincent Van Gogh cuts off hos ears.
Why did he do that? Three main reasons can be inferred.

The most important first reason reason is 'the fight with Paul Gauguin'.
They lived together and drew pictures. When Paul Gauguin was in financial trouble, he needed the help of Theodorus Van Gogh who was Vincent Van Gogh's younger brother and art dealer. After that, Theodorus Van Gogh recommended, Paul Gauguin and Vincent Van Gogh became friends. Also they exchanging letters and living in the same house. But, Vincent Van Gogh was introverted and passionate and Paul Gauguin was cynical and stubborn, so they were fight because of their personality difference.

The Starry Night
Gogh, who has just begun to lift a brush as a painter, lives with another painter Paul Gauguin. The residence was Arles, France, famous for its warm sunshine. However, unlike a fresh start, there was a big difference in the view of art that could not be narrowed between the two. The conflict grew day by day. Gauguin criticized Gogh as "a painter who can't make money," and Gogh responded, calling him "a painter who only knows money." A decisive event occurs at a cafe in Arles. The cafe owner Madame Jinu described Gogh and Gauguin completely differently. Those who couldn't accept the difference between each other conflict again, and Gogh couldn't hold back his anger and cut off his ears.
