If you know anything about World War 2, you would know that Japan was part of the Axis powers, or “the bad guys”. After Hitler had killed himself and Germany surrendered, Japan was the only one left fighting on their side. The US was fighting Japan and slowly started to take the islands that Japan had. One of the islands was called Okinawa, and it was a war-torn place. The battle of Okinawa showed America that Japan would not stop fighting until the very last man. If this is how they were on an island, then the US could only imagine what would happen when they reached the Japanese mainland. The Japanese were not giving up, the people of Okinawa had to live through the suffering of the fighting, and it was killing lots of men on both sides. If they wanted to defeat Japan, to save more lives, they would need to use the atomic bomb. 

Besides the fact that Japan was not giving up, American soldiers and civilians were tired from four years of battle. The attitude towards the war was not good, but yet Japan wasn’t showing any signs of stopping. If civilians and soldiers of the US didn’t want to fight anymore, then that could have led to them surrendering. If they surrendered, the war could have been won by Japan and we would be living in a very different world than right now. If they continued on the battle, loads more people would have been dead, which the US didn’t want. The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was the only way to ensure that the war would end quickly. 

While we’re on the topic of attitude, Japan's attitude was a bit crazy. They were killing their own soldiers in kamikaze attacks, and were torturing and conducting illegal experiments on POW's. Throughout the war, Japan's true form was shown in all displays, and it wasn’t pretty. They were acting like monsters, so they needed to be treated like one. As written in an article by the BBC, former president Harry S. Truman said, “When you have to deal with a beast you have to treat him as a beast”. To stop a country that's acting like a beast, you have to use something powerful to counteract the best. The atomic bomb was needed to put Japan in its place and to justify its actions. 

Due to survey data pulled from 8th graders in CMS, I was able to find out that people that say the bombing of Japan was not necessary also don't know anything about my topic. But people that agreed with me all knew about the topic and were educated on it. People that aren’t educated about my topic are the ones who don’t agree. If they don't know anything about my topic, then their point is worthless in this argument because they don't know anything. But the people who do know about the topic agree with me. They know more about the topic, so they would know all the reasons and information around it. 

Sure, there were countless ways the US could have beat the Japanese. But the most efficient way was to use the atomic bomb. You can still walk away from this op-ed biased towards the other side, but just keep in mind the argument that I have told. The argument that in order to save lives and end a 6 year long war, the atomic bomb was necessary to use, so the United States was right to use it.
