There was a lot of color imagery regarding the man who followed Carla. "It was a lime green car, sort of medium sized and with a kind of long snout"(Alvarez 155). This is significant because the car ended up being a pervert who was half naked.

When the police officer went to Carla and Mami's house because of what Carla experienced, Mami and Carla had to talk to the officer about what happened and they feared the American Officers just like the SIM in Dominican Republic, which shows a symbolism of power and control.

this chapter had kind of a short part about the police after mami has to call the cops because a strange man had pulled up on carla on some weird stuff. but they later started to explain how afraid they were of american police officers. but mami felt she had to contact somebody about this and the cops were the best bet type. But they also said that they were more afraid of the american police then the SIM back in Dominican which should tell you something

In this chapter there were multiple examples of color imagery. For example there was the pervert in the green car who was wearing a red shirt. I thought it was very interesting the contrast between the two colors, most commonly in stop lights.

One of the few occasions where color imagery was used by the author was when the pervert approached Carla, "A long-nosed, lime-green car. It drove slowly, trailing her"(Alvarez 155). The man was half naked and Carla didn't know what to do so she ran home and told her mom what she had witnessed.

Yards-

The family moves from the city to Long Island so the girls can have a yard. The quality of the yard was shown as "the little green squares around each look-alike house seemed more like carpeting that had to be kept clean". This shows how the family is starting to adjust and assimilate to life in the United States. These yards are lush and nice compared to what they are used to.

Carla was surprised to see the private no trespassing sign because she has only seen/heard it in the prayer.
“The sign surprised Carla since ‘forgive us our trespasses’ was the only other context in which she had heard the word” (Alvarez 151).
It shows that Carla is still learning how English works and there is still much for her to see and learn.

" He was wearing his red shirt unbuttoned, which seemed normal given the warms Indian- summer day. " ( Alverez 156). these is what colors Carla noticed before she was harassed.

Carla was assaulted by a man while walking down a street and Mami had to call the cops but through out the talk with the police they were more rude and impatient. " "Can't she talk?" The gruff cop snapped. After trying to explain more Carla was so consumed in her own thoughts about how the classmates would see or treat her knowing about the situation at hand.

Alvarez uses yards as a symbol in the Trespass chapter to show Carla experience and view from America and DR are different. The difference in war, and people, language, school, houses, yard signs etc.
