August 2016

This commercial shows a clip of young boys playing basketball in their neighbourhood and there is another young boy who lives next door who uses his wheelchair for mobility. When one of the boys runs over to grab the basketball he notices the boy in a wheelchair and appears to think of a way to include his neighbour so all the boys grab a rolling chair, a tricycle, and a skateboard with a plastic basket on top to sit on. One of the boys runs to his neighbours house, leaves a basketball at the front door and rings the bell, the boy answers the door and sees the basketball and goes to join the other boys playing basket.
We thought this commercial was so heartwarming, it's amazing to see young kids being a leader and stepping up to help others in need and include everyone.

However, his parents did not give up on him, they did a bunch of research and created their own school for their son Chris, which was one of the first centres of ABA. They also set up their own internship programs for students so they can help teach Chris. We loved this video as it showed their love and passion for Chris. It also discusses how there are very little supports for people with learning disabilities after high school and college. This woman is trying to change to myth about disabilities and try to make their pay and other opportunities just like ours fair. We believe this is a great article because everyday people with a disability either are getting paid less than minimum wage or don't have a job because of their disability. We as society need to change this and understand that they are capable to do jobs and will do a great job. If we as a society change this we can start to include people with a disability and not discriminate them.

March 14 2017
This article is about a mother who wants to educate children with a disability and police officers. They want to educate the police officers about the different needs some children have and how to handle them. It talks about past experiences with the police who have arrested some children with exceptionalities and some ended up dying because of it. It also explains how someone who was deaf was tazard because he didn't respond to the police officers demands. We believe this article is great because not only do police officers but some other workers in the community should be educated about people it exceptionalities. There has been many things in the news about police officers hurting people with a disability or even some of them die because of the restraints. Having police officers educated about this can help people with a disability feel more safe in their community and they can help educate others about them as well.

March 20 2017
This is about sesame street adding a new character to their show who has autism. Her name is Abby and they show her in different episodes. This shows the world that people with exceptionalities aren't different than us and that we can all live in a world where everyone is different. We believe this article is great because this is a very popular show for children and having a character that some children can relate with is great for them. This also shows other children or teaches them about some of their classmates who may have autism. By having this children's show it can help educate them at a younger age and when they get older they can be the ones who are making a difference and realizing that there fellow classmates aren't as different from them.

February 17 2017
This talks about how people with a disability after high school don't seem to have the same resources and support programs. So a group of people who have different disabilities made an art studio where they create plays and create art and showcase it for everyone to come in and discover this helps them to feel responsible and apart of a community. We like this article because it shows that if we all work together we can make a difference in our own communities. This also opens the eyes of some companies and other people in the community or realize there isn't a lot of supports out of highschool and what we can all do as a community to make a difference.

March 14 2017
This is an article about a former marine who lost his leg and has a prosthetic leg. He recently got a new one and it is now waterproof and has been great for him when it comes to his swimming competitions. It also discusses how amputees need to pay for these out of their own pocket there aren't very many services that can help with the cost. This is not fair for people with disabilities. Why do they have to pay out of their own pocket to be able to walk like the rest of us this should be covered or at least have some funding that can help. We like this article because it shows that not everyone with a disability is disabled. People with disabilities can do things and if they put their mind on it they can make a difference in the world. This article can help educate others and see if they can find a way to get more funding for people with prosthetic limbs.

For years he was not comfortable being touched or hugged by anyone but he made an incredible connection the first time he met his service dog. After two long years of waiting for a service dog, the boy and his family flew from Japan to Ohio to meet his service dog for the first time.
This was such a heartwarming article to read about and the video topped it off because it's amazing how a gentle animal can make such a huge impact on this child's life.
